Very litte forward movment
I'm no expert kayaker, but I have use it a little and use canoe and rowboat quite a bit.
I just tired this game now, and there is very little forward movment compared to real life. You get the same amount of movemnet be it short fast strokes or long slow strokes, so instead of a decent forward movment with long even strokes, you end up having to paddle for your life just to get the thing going.

I also am no expert but have also spent many hours in all you have mentioned as well and fully agree, the amount of drift in simulation mode feels off. I switched to arcade after reading a few other posts and it feels more like what you would think simulation should be. Give it a try and see what you think

Sames here, please make the default paddling force adjustable. :)

Using the "force multiplier" in the accessibility settings, you can only decrease the force of your strokes, as it would break leaderboards otherwise.
Arcade is what you want to reach a higher speed
As the game just released, it's possible that there will be tweaks after gathering our feedback

Another land crab here :) I also feel the forward force is too weak?
If the simulation is off, then I think they should try to re-balance it and just reset the leaderboards. OFc I haven't used the race mode yet so I'm not one to care about the leaderboards atm :p Split it in two might be another option.
Maybe as it's not an early access title I guess there might be some hesitation due to that as well?

Agreed...

I have seen others have similar issues and I also found this where it was very slow compared to race ghosts no matter how fast I stroked, and selecting Arcade fixed this.
The game states that Arcade is for racing, which to me was counter intuitive, would have thought you'd choose simulation for racing.

I'd recommend keeping the simulation mode off if you want to have some speed when going around. I'd love to offer to make the slider of forward force go higher but I do worry about competitive integrity obviously so I'm not sure how easily we can do that. Do you also feel like you're too slow on arcade mode or is it a simulation mode problem?

It is simulation mode that I find seems way too slow. When I 1st played the full game I struggled to keep up with bronze ghost. I eventually changed to arcade and was getting close to Gold.
I am a bit confused as to why the two seem so different in speed. Given racing/leaderboards don't care about which mode you are in and arcade mode is much faster, but still feels realistic, I really struggle to see why I would use simulation mode now. I initially went to it straight away assuming it would be more realistic as I also use controllers on a pole.

We put the simulation mode in because in the arcade mode you can basically keep building up speed when in reality at certain speeds you'd start slowing yourself down just by putting your paddle in the water because you can't match the speed of the stroke to the speed you're already going at. The simulation mode's tempo is lower to feel a bit more authentic and slower so if you're in free ride and just want to take your time the option's there.

We'll keep thinking about how to word these things though and to potentially warn users who start racing with simulation mode on. We hoped the hover-over warning would be enough but maybe it's a bit too confusing still!

Alright, thanks. It's a simulation mode problem.
(I should add, afaik. I haven't tried arcade mode a lot)

While in Arcade mode, I found that easiest means to generate speed is to face my Oculus controllers at each other and just rotate them in circles. It is silly, but fast. Saves some arm wear too.

In the trailer you see some players sliding over ice parts and going under water, but no matter how fast I peddle, I don't even come close to speeds like that. Am I missing something?

How can this guy go so fast?? It's impossible. The Kayak doesn't seem to have as much drag either..

Do you have simulation mode on? With that on it's definitely impossible to get speeds this fast. If you are on arcade mode we're thinking about having the dev who recorded those video's show off better how to reach these speeds but it's mostly just deep fast strokes through the water.

I was playing in arcade mode. I think it should be easier to obtain that kind of speeds. It was one of the reasons I thought this could be a fun game.. but now it seems as if it's near impossible to get that fast and do those jumps and slides. Quite disappointing.

I also haven't seen any other videos where someone was going that fast.
