I am paddling and the kayak barely moves
I don't understand how to paddle correctly. I row with all my might, and the kayak barely moves. I can row, I have good experience in kayak rowing. But in the simulator, the kayak is moving at 10 meters per minute, even though I am paddling as hard as I can. What could be the problem?

I am so glad to hear this from a veteran kayaker because I never went kayaking but it felt to me like the thing barely moves at all compared to how I imagined it should.

I wish this game would just have a relaxing mode where you can use controller triggers or even the joystick to move at high speed without flailing around like an idiot. It seriously doesn't feel good. And I always end up smacking my controllers against my chair's arm rest too.

There are videos on youtube where it is shown playing, why bother with the controller, when you can watch them.

Because watching youtube videos doesn't come close to seeing it yourself in VR isn't that obvious

That's not how VR works. You move your head freely and get stereo 3D in VR. A video will either be fixed side by side stereo, or 360 degree 2D. They're not the same and you need to stop implying they are, right now. I bought this game I'm not going to go watch a Youtube playthrough for it because the controls suck.

Not true, the game has an exact description, this is a vr game with vr conrolers. The monkey would guess that it was about moving the paddle. And you want to control with xbox pad.

Vr is about using controllers and you don't want to use them. What you described is cardboard. You can have this by putting your phone in a cardboard box and using the program on your computer.

So the conclusion is simple: you bought the wrong game.

Buy a flat game and use program to display flat game on the screen of vr goggles.

Instead of writing everywhere about adding joystick controls.

PS.: Thank you for the jester's prize, I'll buy myself something nice for points from you.

No kidding it's a VR game that uses the VR controllers. There are also countless VR games that can use keyboard+mouse or Xbox controller and these are also incredibly fun experiences. Stuff like MotherVR, DolphinVR, No Man's Sky (it's better with regular controller 100%) etc all work perfectly fine without VR controllers. Do you seriously wish to tell me that a game where your ONLY interaction is paddling a freaking canoe is so critical to have that awful physical mapping of the VR controllers when games with MUCH more interaction like first person shooters and flight simulators, work just fine without the janky VR controls!? Wow. You have awful taste my friend.

I use HTC VIVE controllers. But the kayak moves very slowly, despite the fact that the oar enters the water correctly and makes a stroke. In a real kayak, two strong strokes are enough to get up to speed, but in the simulator, the expected movement does not occur. At the same time, in the video on YouTube, the kayak moves quickly. So I don't understand what my problem is.

What I've noticed works well on other game forums, is a video recording.
Record a video of you playing, perhaps then it will be better to see what's going on.
As they say, one picture a thousand words. Unfortunately, a single picture here will not help. In other games, strange problems were also caused by poor altitude calibration.

If there is something different in the movies, it means that something does not work for you or you are doing something wrong. But you can still look for movies with identical goggles as yours (remember about controllers, ideally the version of the controllers should also match).

edit:
Try playing sitting and standing, and in different places in the vr area.
Especially with the floor, the tracking coverage may be worse.

New to the game. Like it for what it is. On the paddling: using a G2 Reverb and handpieces. Tip: get a stick form your household reseves, a broomstick or so. I had one by chance, an old fighting stick, 3 cm thick, 45cm long. Wrestle you controllers on them, and have blade rotation (or however it is called in the option) "on". I mean, have the ring of the controllers around the stick in any way that you can hold them tight in place with your thumbs and comfortably so. I managed that inmy first try. That way, you have the imitation of a paddle, and it works VERY well. It was my first go in this game, and I FLEW over the water after I found my rythm.

Try kneeling. Try sitting on a bar stool. Try sitting i Lotus seat on a meditation cushion.

I like what this little software does,it is a pleasant gentle gymnastics for aching back vertebrae and a cramped neck and shoulder area.

Be sure to use "Arcade" in the "General" tab. "Simulation" is far slower.
I don't recommend playing on a chair with armrests. Play while sitting or standing up for greater range of motion if racing.

But you don't have to race! Kayak VR is a perfectly fine free roaming game, but currently it is needed to do moves as you would IRL.

Some quick tips:
The game as a tutorial explaining it a bit,
Skimming the water will barely move / steer you.
Deeper strokes in the water will make you move more / faster !
No need for flailing your arms fast, take it slow and do deep strokes.

Enjoy the game, and play the Christmas map as it going away after tomorrow !

I paddle just like I row a real kayak, you can see it in the oar blade dip, speed and range. However, according to visual sensations, the kayak moves at a speed of less than 1 km/h, while at the same rate of rowing on a real kayak, I would already be moving at a speed of at least 10 - 15 km/h. . And in the video of this game on YouTube, kayaks generally rush like motor boats, so it seems to me that I have some kind of error in the settings.
