We shouldn't have to wait for modders just because you used to work the railways in the 1960's and steam locomotives are your personal preference. Steam locomotives are represented just fine in this game already. An overabundance compared to diesel. We only have one main line loco and one switcher/yard loco. So now it's time for some diesel love for those of us who prefer that.
Besides, you just said in the 60's there was still 50% steam, so that means there was 50% diesel and the amount of diesel locomotives in this game is way less than 50%. So how about we get equal representation and the devs focus on more diesel locomotives and you rely on modders for more steam?
Are we supposed to only ever have 2 to choose from while the devs give you get 10 more, 20 more steam locos? Don't be greedy!
I second the early RSs. Also some RSDs.
Based on the fact that we have GP9s in the game, I'm pretty sure it's set in the mid-50s during the transition era at the earliest.
This was the era when these sorts of lines were struggling to keep hold of their customers as trucks became more widespread and owner operators wanted that freight and could offer good door-to-door deliveries. Passenger numbers were falling rapidly as more and more families found means to buy a car with it's obvious attraction of travelling when YOU want rather than adhere to someone else's schedule, not have to wait in stations or sit in a coach with lots of people you don't know and then have to find a way to get where you wanted to go after stepping off the train.
Oops.
All I did was make a point as to which diesels would be appropriate for this line/era. Everyone is going to play the game how they wish; some will be happy with only steam, some want only diesel and some will want a mix of both. Having a large selection of both steam & diesel engines available wouldn't be a bad thing, but right now there's only 2 diesel models available. And while the Murphy Branch may have been constructed in the 'backwoods', it certainly was not a 'backwoods line'.
