Sawmill takes over 24 hours to unload 8 cars
I thought the unloading times for the sawmill was made faster. It still takes over 24 hours. The load time is faster now.

If the unload time at sawmill was not decreased, PLEASE do so. 6 hours would allow for a complete turnaround in one shift to stay on contract schedule.

first the storage of sawmill gets filled up. After that it depends on level of sawmill contracts how many logs are used.
When storage is filled the consumption is almost zero what slows down unloading.
Level up contracts and consumption will raise.
Its the same with pulpwood at Sylva. You have to fill the storage up to 450 tons equaling 9 cars, on tier 3 consumption is 5 cars / day.

Sawmill stops unloading when the pond is full, so to speak.

I'm not that far in the game, but have also the impression that I have to work 'at the demand side' of the sawmill. Like IRL it makes no sense to keep on taking logs to a sawmill that isn't selling (enough). Same goes for other clients of your railroad. Give them time to produce/sell. IRL you'll never find clients ordering cars just because it's good for your railroad.

I understand about output drives input, but I assumed the more logs then the more they could output and would request cars. Bryson just opened "today" and I selected contracts for tomorrow. The only contract under the Sawmill is already selected and is tier 1. I already see 4 outbound cars daily. I am not rushing the tiers. I do not see anything for the output. I also do not at this point want to deliver more than one set of eight log cars, and just wind up in the same position. Do I need to up the tier to generate more output? And will that required more log cars delivered per day. Does that same logic of upping the tiers to produce more output apply everywhere. Other spots the cars have been there days, but since I didn't have a delivery contract of like the logs I was not concerned. I hesitate upping the tiers because of the cost of downgrading the tier.

I would expect that the "game" requests more outbound cars since they have plenty of logs, and thought that was what the update intended.

The documentation is a little week when looking at tiers, I don't notice anything about what you are committing to, and definitely don't want to over commit.

I just leave 8 loaded log cars at the sawmill. When they are empty, I take them back to be reloaded. Later on, when finances allow I will have two sets of wagons. One set at the sawmill and one set at Connelly.

I use the eight log cars as two four car sets because they fit into Connelly L1 for a better cycle time. I just take the empty set up to replace the loaded set, and bring the loaded set back to the sawmill.

I'm playing solo and only running Tier 2.

The amount of logs cars per day are as follows:

Whittier Saw Mill:
R1: Fits 12 Logs
T1: 8/day
T2: 11/day
T3: 15/day
T4: 21/day
T5: 30/day

As you go up you will be required to drop more and they will unload the cars you place there faster. At Tier 3-5 you must pull logs from more then one place or you'll run it out of logs.

So the way the Sawmill works, or any captured service works, is that you have a 'storage' of the required goods that is based on the Contract Tier. The rate of consumption of that good is also based on Contract Tier. Also important to note is that the rate of consumption is less than the rate at which the cars are unloaded.

See below:
Whittier Saw Mill:
R1: Fits 12 Logs
T1: 8/day
T2: 11/day
T3: 15/day
T4: 21/day
T5: 30/day

So at Tier 1, once you have fulfilled the needs of the Sawmill (8 loads), any additional loads are placed in storage. You should still see cars unloaded relatively quickly here (2-3 per hour or so). However, once the storage is full, cars will begin unloading only as storage space frees up (at the rate of consumption).

Hope this helps.

running T2 sawmill, 11cars, after doing my yard/shunting and deliveries I head to sawmill, I have the saddle tank remove 11 empties, push all to connelly, drop 4 at L1, 4 at L2 and 3+engine sit at L3 till loaded, return trip pickup the other 8 full cars and deliver to sawmill, one trip per day.

At this time I only know where the L2 spur is. It would be great when we get a printable map, showing the different businesses spurs. I made a key command list for the game. However making a map using “F12” is going to be more difficult as the map is on a black background.

If you go to the locations menu (a tab of the company screen) you can fiind (and teleport to) all tracks by clicking on the little squares. Hovering over the name of the track indicates the part of the track(s) that is/are used for (un)loading. Zooming out gives you the surroundings and going to the map further info. You can make a non scaled diagram (with pen and paper is still the best way IMO) and add other info like the length of the tracks (in cars) and the number of cars that can be (un)loaded at the same time. On discord you can find also information. But I recommand to make the diagrams yourself. It helps to understand and memorize the map.
:loco:

PS L1 is near the siding on your way to L2 and L3 is at the end of the line (not leaving the maintrack at L2.

Lots of great info on the Tier levels. Thanks. I think I will bump the sawmill to T2. I found using the company tab to locate the track yesterday by accident. So many things not yet documented in a user guide.

I am glad the devs have taken so much into account, if we can only get them to write down some of it.

I still have my RTFM coffee mug from back in the day. I have some scares from higher ups because I was true to the motto. :) I miss good documentation.

Thank you both coenvijge & FarmerParmer for the map information. I will both print and make one up. I do like to be organised with these types of games. I did this style of business before I retired only with several hundred trucks.I stay away from discord however as I feel that it can become toxic.

I hate the thought of dealing with the L3 spur so I just use 10 cars and drop 5 at L1 and 5+engine at L2 and that lets met meet T4 with only 1 switch to throw. Good enough.
