Possible hotbox issue and AI question
Pretty decent game for EA, though some issues in places. Ive got a tank car with a hotbox and under 15 mph or any other attempt that thing is not moving. tried everything. Also, as i take it now AI will not deliver cars to specific company tracks right? Thanks.

The AI is not smart enough yet to do that sort of work, youll have to move them yourself or line up the ai to stop in the right places.

Hotboxes can be fixed at repair tracks!

I just bought a GP9. On the way from Silva it flagged a hotbox before Ela. I sent it to the freight yard at Bryson and, by that time, it was flagging two hotboxes. I left it in the Bryson engine shop until it reported fixed. As soon as I pulled out of the shop and hooked up my cars, it reported two hotboxes right away. I have disabled the oil and hotboxes.

I can't get the dad-burned thing to move at all to the repair track...that's where i was trying to take it. even at or under 15mph

Is it, apart from having a hotbox, also derailled?

I've not had a hot box so far myself, so when you say it 'flagged a hotbox', do you specifically mean the engine itself as having a hotbox or the train as a whole? Because the way you said it flagged again as soon as you hooked back up to the rollingstock it sounds like the issue is with one of them rather than the engine.

With regards to the OP, I would also check to see if the brakes are on at all. A lot of the smaller engines can't pull through an engaged hand- or air-brake.

Make sure all your axles are lubricated before telling any train to head out. It may take a minute but can save you a lot more by preventing those hotbox events. Even the axles of non-company owned cars can be oiled and often arrive at just 60% oiled :)

Edit: Just had a 49 car delivery and 10 of the cars were just 40% oiled, which would mean a very high probability of getting at least 1 hotbox. You only need to click the oiled on 1 axle of any unit to complete the oiling, loco or car.

this car arrived likely with 50-60% on the oil level. (it was to be delivered and arrived in the yard) i saved the game. reloaded it later and then i had the hotbox. the frequency of these is a bit too high imo.

You can also find cars with a hotbox on arrival at the interface. So, as mentioned above, checking all your cars at arrival is a must, to avoid problems later on.

When you were checking the oil levels why didn't you just oil them? If you have a save game then just start that and try doing the oiling and see whether you get the hotboxes.

because in and amongst the countless other things to learn when starting out (of which the tutorial does a decent job but isn't by any means very good at) I had no clue that equipment would just arrive and that 50-60% oil levels while the rolling stock wasn't moving would elicit a hotbox. I think the present state of this feature needs a bit better implementation. Equipment in railyards doesn't just sit and even at lower oiling levels suddenly sprout a "hotbox." Also, i tried moving the car to the repair track at under 15 mph and the thing won't budge. How is one supposed to fix it?

I don't know whether the tutorial has been added to as new features have been added. I last looked when the game first came out and I ran it through just that 1st time. If it hasn't been updated then maybe that is something the devs should look at.

As for your stuck tank, have you checked that the handbrake is off and you have the air connected? If they are then the only way I can see to get it moved is to cheat it by going into the console, type "/mode sandbox", press enter, then make sure you have the connected loco selected/ticked in the loco panel and type "/repair". You can go back to company mode by typing "/mode company" and pressing enter.

I hope that doesn't sound condescending to you, that is not my intention at all :)

You know that there is a setting for the oil consume? (Company Window / Settings / Features). Over there you can also decide to completely disable the oilconsume/hotbox feature.

The Inspector panel on the GP9 was reporting a hotbox; actually, two. I supposedly repaired it but then it started reporting one again. I have disabled the hotboxes in the Settings panel but the hotbox is still showing up and preventing the engine from moving above 15mph.

Can you send me your game logs and game save? Is your game modded at all?

You can email them to me at Connor@Giraffelab.com
