new wheel sounds (Devs please)
Have already 1000+ hours in this great game but since the latest patch I've found the new Wheel Sounds so annoying that I always quit after a couple of minutes.
Previously the wheel rattles sounded very natural, saturated and dry, so well balanced that I almost maxed the wheel sound volume for a proper speed feedback, especially when coasting along :-)

Not anymore. After the 2024.4.0 patch the rattles sound like constantly driving inside a tunnel, somewhat mixed with (a badly ?) reverberation effect. Now the rattles sound quite thin, almost out of place, somewhat disconnected from the driving ( like inside a cooking pot always come to my mind.., sorry for that).

Yes I'm sure that this isn't noticed by most people but playing with earphones (as I do solely) particularly highlights this effect and I hope I'm not the only one noticing it.

So at this point I'd really whish we could have the old wheel sounds back. Can this be done until the next sound update?? It's so frustrating (for me) now alongside with those excellent new chuffing sounds !

I would also like to recommend an additional sound option: If there were separate volume sliders for wheel roll/rumble and wheel rattles in the sound settings the user could keep the rolling noise up (for a good speed sensation) while muting or gaining the rattles sound to his hearts content.

What do you think about it ?

You're not alone. Quite early in the update I noticed the off-feeling of the wheel sounds. I thought it was me, mixing up memories of the previous sound with another game (Derail Valley). So I didn't say/write here, but discussed it with a fellow player in our personal chat. We weren't sure if the previous sound was something else, but yes: I used to keep an ear to the wheels for speed feedback also. Now I've sometimes the impression, that the sound loops independent of the speed driven, especially while shunting.

Just more dev time spent fixing things that aren't broke that could have waited till later to tweak and refine.

mutes the rumble sound also resulting in NO SOUND at all when coasting
Thats why I suggested a separate volume slider.

The previous sound was almost perfect. I just wonder why at all they reverb/crippled it.

EDIT: I actually hope the wave file behind was erroneously "auto processed" for the recent audio changes

Am I the only one who noticed that the sound only comes from the tender?

I've noticed that the sounds are off as well. Mentioned it in another thread. It's one of those things that will need to be addressed but I feel that it is a minor issue right now when there is so much more development of the buildings, operating models, locomotive/car rosters to do. But it's early access so there will be bugs and things to work on.

Wheel sounds right now seem to be an entirely generic clip played every so often depending on speed. There isn't any sound when traversing switches either, when there should be a barrage of noise tied to wheels crossing the gaps. For now I've just been assuming that most of the sound is as placeholder as the (lack of) environmental scenery and the both nicely and horribly modelled rolling stock, ie very.
