Locust Pin Co. ordering more cars than it can use
Been a recurring meme of my friends current co-op save we've been running, but Locust Pin Co. will not stop having dimensional wood cars delivered to the interchange, despite there already being two lumber cars and two furniture cars sitting on the spur being worked. We are currently up to 5 (7 total) excess lumber cars and the company will not stop ordering them.

I was similarly worried about another industry/customer in the same way, so I never increased to next contract tier level with them. Not quite sure if this is a bug/design flaw that needs to be address or intentional?

I was wandering the same or very similar thing. I use the exchange 3 times a day (6:00, 14:00, 22:00) and using the highest tier possible whenever it is available. So far only Locust has been ordering more than I can put on their designated track. So far it is usually full 5 cars there and 1-2 sitting on first passenger track. The other companies order (at least for me) cars when they run out of stuff (or are about to), but Locust orders whenever they feel like it, at least it seems to me so far.
Note that my experience is thanks to previous patch, not tested in the wear and tear patch, but I guess it will be the same since the patch notes did not mention anything about this (as far as I know).

It's a known issue with both Locust Pin and Appalachian Hardwoods.
The issue is these industries consume raw product at the same rate as they output their finished products. Thereby creating a bottleneck because their internal storage will never fill up, unless the player actively only provides, the industry with raw materials only.

If the industry has a full internal storage (not visible to player in a vanilla game) It will stop ordering more materials, and instead order more empty cars.

There are two ways to fix this issue.

1. Wait for the devs to fix it.
2. Use a mod to fix it. Like this one: https://github.com/Voidheartd/IndustryFix/releases

The mod fixes it, by increasing the unload rate of raw materials.

We will look into this issue, the mod can help in the mean time!

I've had this happen on the railroad I work for. The customer ordered 46 cars and they only had space for 16. I couldn't take the excess back to the yard, so I ended up having to fill the branch line up with them and told the guy relieving me that he was screwed and have fun.
