Pretty sure it's mentioned in the tutorial that it's 35 unless otherwise noted.

yes but there area of 45 and 20 even 30 and only way to see it is with the ai turned on, and if you hauling a heavy train and soon you turn on the ai they love to slam the brakes to full

Like IRL there are sections of track where you can run a higher speed. But it's not allowed. You'll have to learn where they are and how high the risk of overspeeding is. And, also like IRL, there are sections where it's wise to reduce your speed even more then asked for by the speed signs. Indication the possible speed on the HUD takes away a part of the fun of the game. You have to learn what you can and especially what you can't do. Just following an indicator on the HUD isn't good IMO.

Yep, probably because you are driving too fast. The AI is trained to drive the train under the allowed speed.

again, because the speed limit change like crazy, so it would be nice to have a speed limit on the hub, like the logging area you can go 35 but its 20 up the grade,

The third pinned thread titled "Railroader Track Map' has a post with a link to a pdf version of a map of the entire route...on this map there are speed limits indicated. Also in game there's a map overlay you can use that shows speed limits as well. While these are not as convenient as having it on the hub, they are available.

I run the passenger service at 35mph and the freight between 20/25mph there is no rush with the freight and you will find at the slower speed a lot less water is being used. The Murphy Branch track has a lot of bends and grades. It is not a track for speed. Check Google Earth as you can follow the whole route. It seems to have fallen on hard time as of late, but still does passenger traffic.

can also be that when you switch over from manual to AI, the AI immediately takes effect regardless of the setting. So if you switch over to yard it instantly tries to stop instead of waiting for you to give an order. Same with going to road mode, depending on the setting when you flip to it, it could slam on the brakes or hit the gas. Not, sure if an some sort of implement button would be worth adding.
