Best loco for Robinson Coal.
I've just expanded to Robinson Coal what loco would be best to use for Robinson?

Excellent work!
Logging Mikado or C-46 Consolidation will handle empties on both the grades and the curves to Robinson Gap. But for higher tiers you'll need to double up to get the loaded coal back to Sylva. Make it a priority to open Alarka so you get the little yard at the wye. Let me know how this turns out. Good luck!

The C-46 Consolidation is the minimum steam locomotive for Robinson Gap Coal Mine, and pair of GP9 diesel locomotives if you are using diesel locomotives and recommend on the steam locomotive side of things C-55 Consolidation and or at least one or two more GP9 diesel locomotives for the higher tiers of Robinson Gap Coal Mine.

Thanks for the suggestions. I ended going with the C55 and the larger switcher double heading taking the coal wagons from Whittier Interchange to the Robinson Coal Mine for the Tier 3 contracts. On the larger Tier Contracts I'll switch to the GP9s as you suggested.

Using the Decapod for shunting at the gap and then GP9's for transit

OK, how well does the Dek handle the sharp curves at Alarka?
C-46 is my choice, and easily handles the empties up the hill. Then put one at the head and a helper at the tail to get the loaded coal back to Sylva.

fine, turn radius is more of a tolerance to over speed versus straight derail from radius

I just started at Robinson. Using decapod. Just tier 1. Probably double head decapod as tiers increase.

I am currently using the Decapod at Robertson and for my hauling coal service. Just picked up 14 loaded cars (1042 tons) and made the run to Sylva IC. When I got to the IC I was low on water (approx 900 gals left) Other then that she worked well. I feel if I go over the tonnage I hauled, I would need to make a stop for water/coal or need to double head them.

Although the diesel is appealing I'm working my railroad slowly. Utilize steam only until the map is about completed. I have only gotten 2 loans of a grand each. Double header steam is fun as well. Thanks for letting me know about the decapod performance.

I hauled 12 loads of Coal and Copper Ore + some boxcars from Appalachian Hardwood (1,300 tons) from Bryson to Sylva with single C-46 Consolidation, starting with full coal and water at Alarka, refilling water in Whittier and again in Dillsboro. So I went ahead and ordered Robinson Tier 5 today, so let's see how everything goes.

A pair of C-46 Constellations for me. Just upped the Robinson tier.

I find that the Diesel Switcher (SW1) or GP 9 to be the best Engine to handle both Alarka Copper mines, Alarka yard switching and pickup/drop off at Robinson's mine. I have used both the consolidation and Mikado but found them unsuitable. Had there been water available at Alarka Junction or at Robinson mine then steam would have been OK.
Have used a single GP9 to bring down to Bryson and then onto Interchange tracks a train of 2013 tons or 24 cars of coal with very little trouble or use of Fuel.

There is water now at Alarka Jct (as a milestone)
