Edit: I sooo very much want a yellowstone class in game because no other game really has one unless you count a backwards yellowstone aka AC12s
Edit: I almost completely forgot about Western Maryland's 1309 (2-6-6-2), which isn't that much longer then the Berk we have in game....
This locomotive helps you find bad track and help you straighten out your railroad and is just as much a locomotive and a track maintenance tool :D
Naturally when this occurs (route expansion) different and heavier locomotive power will come into play as we may see the mainline fast freights as well. I’m kind of surprised we have the Berkshires actually but the again I’m not familiar with these roadnames. Seeing how the game is keeping to realism in operations since the UP operated them further west I doubt they’d come into play but if they did it would be a heck of a map to scroll around seeing the lines they would have to cover!
Speaking of - since we’re in the southeast neck of the woods how about dealing with the Norfolk & Western at some point (drool)?
“Agile A Class 2-6-6-4s pull high-speed manifest and roll long strings of heavyweight cars at 70 MPH. Huge Y class 2-8-8-2 sluggers shake the Appalachians to their very roots on the heavy grades and the tortuous curves of the Tug Fork.” Ahhhhh…yes please. Oh to dream.
I haven't bought this yet but looks attractive and I like the fact it has a working economy mechanics involved in moving cars. it mentions early diesels. Do they mean like GE44's and RS1 or 2's or diesels far earlier than that?
With that out of the way, like everyone else said the Big Boy is massively overkill for even the fully completed line in this game. Heck, IRL the Big Boy was overkill for the most part, they were designed specifically for hauling long, heavy bulk goods trains across the Rocky Mountains.
I'd honestly be surprised if we got any of the big articulated or superpower locomotives, there's just no use for them in this game.
The two diesels in the game (so far) are the SW1 and the GP9.
I haven't earned enough money to buy either of them yet but I'm actually having so much fun running steam that I'm no longer in a hurry to do so!
