Gradient
is there a way to view the current track gradient? If not, can we have something added to the hud to show the current gradient? i.e. +1.5% if going uphill or -1.5% if going downhill

Shift + ? on track for grade info. Here is a couple of resources for maps and info.... It is not currently in game, we are working on those sorts of things.

Here is a community made grade map by Cisco904:

In my opinion, this is not a very good idea, there is no need to try to simplify the *game. You can already see and feel, when the speed decreases, or increases.

make it an option for the people who want it...

How would that be simplifying the game? Sure I agree, you can get a good idea by surveying the terrain. However I'm sure most RR engineers know what grades are on their current road.

Disagree...it's nice to have gradients posted as this is a game that is played for a handful of hours per week, unlike working on a real RR for 40+ hours/wk for years which makes it easier to remember what the grades are and when they begin/end.

+1 Agree...would like to see an option to be able to toggle a setting that would let me see gradients.

EDIT: Never mind...it's already in-game...see post #11 below.

Perhaps a compromise can be made and a sign on the side of the railway indicates upcoming grades? Is this totally immersion breaking? I'm not a railway bro, so I'm not sure if such signs exist.

No need to remember anything ! You can already see the speed, this way you can estimate gradients.

I don’t know... how many people, so many opinions. Some people like huge HUD and cluttered information on the screen.

Either way, I hope the developers have other priorities than this.

I agree maybe on just the map when you bring it up. So we can learn what is where as not everyone is from NC or familiar with this track

I agree I do not want a cluttered HUD so thats why I suggest things on the MAP or something we can open/close

It really only needs to be a small piece of text after the train weight, that shouldn't cause any clutter.
Its something I would really find useful, but get why others might not want it.
It could (and maybe should) be an enabled via an on/off feature via the features menu.

Point to the middle of the track and press ? (question mark). Percent grade information is necessary making decisions how may cars and how much power needed.

Thank you. Works perfectly. One question: what are the first two numbers in the tool-tip referring to? Example: track I looked at just now indicates "9543, 7415 | 0%,0 deg".

This might be some sort of debug information used by the developers.
A developer of this app has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

That is map location data.
