First person mode is unbearable in my opinion
Hey folks,
I find myself about 99% of the time in overhead camera, which is fine for playing with the model railroad.

I switch only to first person mode when there is no other way.

Why?
Two things:
a) the already discussed broken FOV perspectives. It looks totally off to the point of being sickening.
b) the camera controls are the same as in overhead mode. In what other game do you need to HOLD the right mouse key to look around / move the camera? That's total nonsense, really :-) The FPS camera should move with mouse movement alone.

Also, great game, I'm having a blast :]

It has already been discussed/ requested to have the ability to toggle camera movement instead of holding right click, which I think would be a big improvement.

I think its doable as is, with a lot of FOV tweaking, but yeah. It definitely needs a bit of work imo

Ive seen messed up FOV in games... but this is indeed a new low standard, lol
Who the heck coded this? And in what kind of state? :steammocking:

Wurm Online.

On a serious note, though, the sensitivity could use some work, too. Even at max. sensitivity, I get maybe a 90° turn comfortably, then need to pick up and re-swipe the mouse.

Ah, I'm the exact opposite - 90% 1st person, only 3rd for points changing and yard shunting at times. Because I hate 3rd person games, i'd rather put up with the dodgy view at times, although scrolling the mouse wheel a bit adjusts it if its gone way bad.

Do I really have to hold the right mouse button in first person all the time to look around? This is so uncomfortable. In Derail Valley for example you can switch between camera/cursor movement by pressing alt.

They're like this in Run8. One of the best train simulators on the market. It's not standard FPS but you get used to it with games that require the cursor for interactive elements. It's more annoying having a cursor/view mode switch or something.

For those of you with some issues, there are mods to stopgap your experience as needed. Check out the mod links at the top of the discussion threads, while we work on the main game!

Why does it have to be a mod? Why can't it be a feature in the game, with an option to turn it on and off as we please? I think that's a lazy way of dealing with what the community is asking.

DorniNerd made it clear that a mod was a temporary means of accomplishing things until such time as the devs can implement solutions in the game. That isn't being lazy - it's more about setting priorities.

You suggest we should use mods for a very basic function like a toggle button for cursor/camera movement? really?
This should be already in the game in my opinion! First person mode doesn't feel like a true first person mode if the right mouse button has to be pressed all the time to move the camera.
Implementing a toggle button for camera/cursor movement should be such a quick and easy patch and would make the first person mode actually usable for everyone playing your game! People who want to keep right mouse button pressed all the time can continue to do so and people who don't should be able to just toggle camera movement on/off.
