What do you need to get CTC?
I have signals from Bryson to Whittier. I see the CTC control board with representation of that line shown. However, the CTC board has no switches, except for the manual/auto switch which does not work. What do I actually need to to in order to use the CTC board?

Bottom left of the center "panel" has a mode switch, turn it to CTC. That should turn on the panel and switches.

Try clicking and drag the switch to CTC mode.

I see. Thank you, that works. Having the switches be invisible/visible is odd to me. Why not always have them be visible, but active/inactive depending on mode?

Maybe! Something to consider.

You get the table at the same time you get the signals to Bryson. The table is in the top floor of the Bryson passenger depot. You enter through a marked door in the back of the depot. Just walk through the door, it doesn't open.

Im curious about this.. is the CTC meant to be played with people or can AI run the trains and I run the CTC?

Both. CTC is designed to allow you to manage the mainline and it's sidings from a central location.

Yeah, except when I bought the game, I expected the AI to have an option to actually perform as train engineers and conductors so I could just stay at CTC when I wanted to.

Unfortunately, the AI at the moment is nothing more than a "cruise control" for speed, and doesn't do anything about route switching, yard organization, any driving actually, order fulfillment/train orders, yard driving and management, train refueling and maintenance, etc. Other than the much appreciated passenger station stops, there really isn't any AI, so I cannot realistically enjoy the CTC.

I do enjoy running the trains, but hopefully someday the game will ACTUALLY have competent enough train AI to let single players enjoy CTC operations.

This was my desire as well. Previews made it seem like it was possible. Hopefully one day it will be. I would assume it would require in game training for employee or hiring conductors/engineers to make it possible for them to perform this. Would like to be able to just sit and man the CTC.

well, if the AI is capable of all of that you are a superfluous position as a CTC operator. CTC is a very boring position if your basically limited to a glorified remote for the AI. I mean if you want to run CTC only your more then welcome to come on my server and do it, but realize your basically going to be sitting there quietly in a corner, until someone else tells you exactly what to do and its about once every 15min or so.

I guess, I should ask what do you think the role/responsibilities of the CTC operator is if the AI is capable of doing everything you decide? I ask this because I think what you think a CTC operator does and what they really do are two very different things.

Thats about that i thought it would be.. some people just like it.
There is a CTC style game that looks very boring on steam that basically have no train graphics at all and simulate a board with blinking lights. Does not sound fun to me at all but maybe they should buy that game instead. What I would really like to work is the trains with your hired personnel performing full operations that you delegate to them like Thog has said above.

I do not see myself using the table at all but its cool that its there for those who want to.
