Company mode advantage: Pulling vs Shoving?
In "Company mode," does RailRoader care at all if you shove for long runs instead of pulling? It's so easy to just "push/pull" passenger runs back and forth instead of turning the loco.

It is your railroad, run it how you want! :).

It doesn't care. I push/pull all the time. Pull tender first from Sylva, and push from Alarka with a run-around at Bryson City for the return trip, taking on freight cars if there are some ready.

Perhaps devs should consider a "safety inspector" handing out fines for pushes over "x" amount of miles.

We likely won't, since it wasn't against any of the rulebooks at the time. Least the ones we work around.

Some end lines, industrial lines, need pushing for your loco to not get stuck. But for role playing senses I indeed force myself not to shove my passenger train down the line when returning, but instead to take the time to reverse the loco past the passenger cars.

Just out of curiosity: is (was) there an issue with push/pull with real Steam engines? Was there a reason not to do it (except maybe for convenience)?

you could also put a loco on each end tho running cost's would double on the flip side

The two main things were cab control access, visibility and the fact that tenders weren't really built to be pushed through. Push-pull with steam was actually somewhat common in the UK though it required specialized connections for the locomotive. The GWR, North Eastern, LB&SCR and Midland all had push-pull services with steam locomotives, usually using tank engines to avoid issues with tenders.
