You can confirm this if you find a NPC talking or a radio. Spin yourself around and you will notice the radio sound never gets separated to play on the rear speakers only when you have your back turned to it.
Well, I don't on 7.1, but I Do on 5.1.
It's convoluted, so I won't explain in this thread.
DTS audio works in movie files tho but this game doesnt.
Real time Dolby or DTS encoding isn't the same as the game actually using surround sound. If the game is only stereo, Dolby or DTS encoding will just encode a stereo signal, that is why I resorted to using Virtual Audio Cable. That presents the game with 6 or 8 channels, and essentially "forces" the game to output in surround sound.
You get real surround sound out of of the game just using the Dolby App?

However, that tends not to work in Unreal Engine games, so that is why I resorted to using Virtual Audio Cable - to present virtual surround speakers to the game.
