Engineering is really not necessary here because you can find all the safe combinations.
I think the developers should split the skill tree into Combat and Intelligence, and give us a skill point in each on level up.
But it's a demo, there's not enough stuff in it to warrant giving us the ability to max out every skill anyway.

The trick is saving all the hostages in the tv station (took me several attempts to save the group) and critting everyone, as it seems to give more xp. And of course finding all the skill discs.
