Don't believe the haters. Detroit is awesome. It's completely unlike any other major metropolitan area in the country. Downtown is just as safe as any other city (actually, probably a lot safer, in many instances). If you have a chance, do a little research. If it interests you, and you're in the area, check it out.

'It's fiction, durrr' is actually fairly appropriate here. The game is not meant to be a historic representation of Detroit. It's meant to be a representation of Detroit in the films. And in that context, it's perfectly accurate.

In fact, it would be a lot more cause for critique if they tried making it into a social commentary on current-day Detroit; it might be 'relevant' but it wouldn't be Robocop.
