That surprises me, since I have had no shader stutter so far. I'm not too far into the game, I just got to the psych eval (the real one where you get asked questions), but the experience has been smooth. However, when I first started the game, it was stuttering like crazy on the main menu. I just left it there for a good while and made myself dinner. When I came back it was smooth and has stayed smooth since, even with subsequent launches.
That's not to say that this is a refutation of your experience, I'm just curious about what would cause two different players to experience things differently.
I'll just wait a year or two before rebuying. Literally all other games that precompile shaders have a loading bar the first time you launch the game as well as any time you upgrade your video card or driver. They might patch it. If not I may have newer hardware by then.
When you check the fps counter that Steam comes with, it will go as low as like 3 fps and as soon as it's stable back at the frame rate your game is running on, you're good to go.
When you relaunch the game afterwards, you get into it right away.
