How to know when shader compilation is complete?
Why is there no progress indication in the UI?

been a while since i launched the game, but if there's no indication in the main menu then that usually means it's done on the fly

Ah so, don't play until they fix that is what you're saying. It should all be done on first launch and when hardware changes. I'm not playing a slide show that's constantly compiling shaders every time I encounter uncompiled shaders. I wonder if anyone has figured a way to force a full compilation...

This is gonna sound so weird, but on the main menu, if Robocop's head keeps changing size slightly, it means it's still compiling shaders. Once you see his head stop changing size, wait maybe a few more minutes, then you should be fine. This is what I did, and I've not had any stutter since.

From my understanding (what I've learned since posting), the shaders compile as you encounter them. 100% of the shaders don't exist on the title screen.

Simply said at that moment when the performance is smooth and you are able to move the mouse without stutters.

That only means the shaders present in the currently loaded area have been compiled, not all of them.

That surprises me, since I have had no shader stutter so far. I'm not too far into the game, I just got to the psych eval (the real one where you get asked questions), but the experience has been smooth. However, when I first started the game, it was stuttering like crazy on the main menu. I just left it there for a good while and made myself dinner. When I came back it was smooth and has stayed smooth since, even with subsequent launches.

That's not to say that this is a refutation of your experience, I'm just curious about what would cause two different players to experience things differently.

I'll just wait a year or two before rebuying. Literally all other games that precompile shaders have a loading bar the first time you launch the game as well as any time you upgrade your video card or driver. They might patch it. If not I may have newer hardware by then.

Aside from RoboCop being a UE5 game, like others said: It compiles the first time you launch the game and after driver reinstallation. So yeah, it's a bit annoying, but it only takes 2 or 3 mins, depending on your hardware, I guess.
When you check the fps counter that Steam comes with, it will go as low as like 3 fps and as soon as it's stable back at the frame rate your game is running on, you're good to go.

When you relaunch the game afterwards, you get into it right away.

Oops, I must have switched the thread, but my head was still at the old thread when typing

I don't mind waiting for the stutter to end but it spikes my CPU to 100% and temps reach over 100 degrees while it's doing it every time. This is what kills processors. No other game seems to do this. Runs smooth as silk though.

I know exactly how simple it would be to implement a progress bar and compile them all at first launch. Don't know why they don't/didn't do it when all other games that pre-compile shaders did it without being asked nor the need for public shaming.
