So I got 1.4gb, some 628mb and yet others got 37gb? What's going on I wonder. Oh well...

Patches are big. Especially for hotfixing gamepads from an entirely different platform to work on a PC video game.

because unreal 5 uses big pak files so you patch one little file in the compiler you got to resend the whole file again to end users

Nonsense. We're talking a gigabyte, not a megabyte. I think coolluke1992 has the answer. It has to replace a bunch of files that have nothing to do with the patch.
