Otherwise, the game was good. But I think the endings (I wouldn't really call them endings) was the weakest part of the game.
It also would have been nice if it had a stronger climax that involved the citizens of Detroit. You spend time patrolling the neighborhoods and helping people, you rescue them close to the end when everything is chaos, and it sort of creates this sense of community where people understand Robocop is trying to help, but it would have been nice to see them reciprocate that somehow while rejecting OCP's plans. There is a bit of that with sidequests, but we mainly see it at the end in the form of snapshots with narration.
I agree, since I knew Robocop 2 would be in the game, I was hoping he/it, would be Briggs, as a secondary boss and the old man would be something new and more advanced.....
We're missing an explanation as to how the Old Man's brain ended up in Robocop 2. I'm ruling out that it was by choice, otherwise why would OCP bother with Project Afterlife when they already had the technology to put a brain in Robocop 2.
At first I thought it was simply a last resort as there wasnt a more suitable body ready, whether because of time or because Becker's funding cuts prevented Project Afterlife from making one, but the Old Man seems wholly optimistic heading into the procedure.
It's like we're missing a vital cutscene of the Old Man's brain about to be put into a more humanoid body only for Wendell to show up with the stolen Robo2 shell and force the surgeons to use that instead. What are people's thoughts?
The ending slides based on your choices and actions in game were welcome; it was nice seeing that some choices did affect the characters. At the end of the day for Murphy though, it's back to the grind. Detroit still has its problems and he's going to face them head on, as Alex Murphy & RoboCop both.
My headcanon is that the engineers/whoever was actually in charge of the AfterLife Project didn't want to disappoint/piss off the dying Old Man saying they couldn't give him what he actually wanted - both for budget cuts and the technology not being there yet -, so they just lied to him saying he was going to be in a pretty cool body and go back to his daily life as soon as he woke up. And that's why he sounded so optmistic.
I think it wouldn't be a stretch to imagine that once asked by the team "the Old Man is dying and we couldn't finish a prototype yet, what're we gonna do?", Becker answered something like "just cancel this failed project already and put the Old B***h in one of our scrapped units. Maybe that way at least he can be useful for future researches and repay all the money he sunk on that mess".
Also, prior to his death the Old Man seemed really afraid of dying, even asking RoboCop on his visit to the hospital for some kind of reassurance about how it was to wake up as a cyborg (he gets angry you answer him saying it was "painful", or something similar). He was clinging to any possibility of extending his life before his human body failed him for the last time, so I believe that made him pretty gullible.
Maybe if the Old Man lived for some more time in a healthy state, he could have surpervised the project better, to the point of actually getting some new bodysuit prototypes and using other people as guinea pigs (instead of subjecting himself - voluntarily or not)? We will probably never know.
But yeah, it would be nice if the game let what happened more clear.
I think that's basically what happened. The devs probably want you to fight against a character somewhat related to RoboCop (so the battle felt at least a bit personal) while at the same time giving us a spectable fight that didn't involve an already used Robot/Boss.
I appreciate the effort, even if the execution could have been better/clearer.
