Is there a way to manually save?

I thoroughly explore every level just looking at stuff and I've found a lot of notes and evidence. Is there anyway to save the game on my own so I don't have to continue playing the actual mission until I get a checkpoint?

Saw someone mention entering/exiting building to trigger an auto, haven't seen any normal way to do it yet
