Cutscenes are much more demanding on my gpu for some reason (amd 6750 xt)
Anyone have a clue what's going on with the cutscenes? I suspect it might be an AMD issue.

Regular gameplay with everything on epic and balanced FSR, my gpu is between 50-70% load with a constant 60fps. Then a cutscene starts and my gpu is up at 98-99% almost constantly and my fps drops to 45-55.

I am curious what could be causing it, because i didn't find any reason when changing graphics settings.

Oh now i'm even more confused, i was sure it was AMD specific.

There is no mystery. That is how every game with real time cutscenes are since the late 90s.
During cutscenes, the game uses higher quality models, with more polygons, often better textures, lighting, a ton of extra visual effects like depth of field etc.. It's just using higher and more demanding assets in cutscenes than it does in gameplay. During gameplay you are not even seeing the model for Robocop.

I guess i've never seen such a discrepancy in performance before.

Perhaps not on PC, but in console some games runs at 60fps during gameplay, but capped at 30fps in cutscenes. That is sometimes necessary.

I mean, the recent Mortal Kombat games do that even on PC.

Fair enough but i really don't see anything amazing in the cutscenes to warant such high load compared to the gameplay.

It feels like the performance difference between playing with ray tracing on or off but i don't see anything crazy in them.

Even at the start with Soot standing in front of the camera at a desk i was at 99% load most of the time.

I was hoping maybe there was a specific setting that causes this demand. Maybe something you can tweak from the ini file, i don't know.

I hate Soot, not because of the story but because his glorious hair is killing my gpu.

It could be some lack of optimization as well.. For example.. generally during real time cutscenes, the game doesn't render the entire environment from the gameplay area.. just the room or what the camera can see, so the fidelity of the characters can be pushed even further.

You may not notice the difference instantly, but a lot of games have entirely different models for cutscenes with high poly count and higher res texture. A good example is The Witcher 3.. every single character in the game has a different model for when you see it in the world and when you see them upclose in converstaions and cutscenes. They dynamically change when you jump in and out of dialogue. There were even mods to add higher quality NPCs to gameplay.

Like I said.. during cutscenes you often see Robocop, which is the highest quality character in the game, obviously.. but you don't see him in gameplay.

Game is completely playable stable 30fps on my Steam Deck with low mixed medium setting on 70% TSR, but cutscenes hit the low 20s it’s really bothering me. Cause it really takes away from the experience. It’s twice the load I think especially GPU wise. It goes full clock without going down even a little

Fun fact: you can force cinematic quality on all settings via the user settings file in appdata/local/robocop.

Then you will experience no fps dip when going into a cutscene (because it was low to begin with...:lunar2019coolpig:)
