I'd take it. Get Karl Urban back too.
Yeah Urban for Dredd voice acting.
I think Judge Dredd doesn't get a much of a chance for movies or TV series, is because it's expensive. All being due to the cost of making a far flung in the future movie.
Whereas a video game doesn't need expensive movie special effects. ... If a team of devs got access to the comic material for storylines, the JD games could go on forever.
Or even a Judge Dredd animated TV show if it was made in high quality animations. Again they have decades of source material to go at.
I think the chances of anything being developed are slim though, since all previous JD projects did not do well.
Crossovers are stupid.
Crossover comics are dumb.
that would be a dream....
I would be fine with a new voice actor for Dredd. Besides Dredd was quite young when he started in the 2000AD comics.
Stallone removing his helmet in the Judge Dredd movie, annoyed a lot of fans. Having said that though, the plot made it so it could not have been any other way. However the only time JD was without his helmet in the comics, the image was censored.
Fans also argued that the Stallone movie was not very good. I beg to differ with that in some ways.
The ABC Warrior was excellent.
They made the costumes faithfully, in one way. Although they were made of cloth, and there was no reason to think the comic Dredd's costume was not made of some tough material.
I like the idea of Karl Urban - Dredd costumes using armour. The Karl Urban costumes were like the very early JD costumes from the comics. Small shoulder pads of the eagle of justice etc.
The city in the Stallone movie was far more authentic.
The bikes while not perfect in Stallone were much closer to the comics.
The Karl Urban Dredd while highly praised was lacking in some aspects. Like I do not recall a single robot in the movie. A lot of the city was low rise. However the budget was only $50 million.
The Judge Dredd comic strip however has a faithful following. Judge Dredd appeared in episode two of 2000AD in 1977 and still runs today. There have been JD Megazines too. It would not be so if the JD content were not still entertaining millions.
The amount of source material for a highly animated TV show, or video game series is astonishing. Pretty sure Rebellion bought the 2000AD franchise too, so they may have full rights to use it. I can't imagine 2000AD objecting to a JD video game as a successful one would bring them more business.
However the video game industry is not as safe as it was four years ago. There have been six-thousand layoffs in the gaming-studio industry in 2023 alone. It's hard to imagine a developer wanting to risk making a JD franchise. Although Teyon's fan service is what brings the love and success.
