I'm actually getting the same error now, Validating files didn't do anything but it seems to be only the specific section of the game i'm in atm (don't want to spoiler anything on accident)
Tldr:
Open Regedit as an admin (search in windows search and then right click, run as admin)
Backup your registry (File -> Export)
Select Export Range 'All'
Save it somewhere you can get to in the event you break something and need to restore
(Create a restore point as well if you are inclined to do so)
Then navigate to the following path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SYSTEM -> CurrentControlSet -> Control -> GraphicsDrivers
Then perform the following:
Right Click in the right panel in the 'white space' and Select New In Windows Registry
Select DWORD (32-bit) Value
Type TdrLevel (Type as it is written)
Double click or right click TdrLevel and select Modify
Confirm that the vaule is 0
Reboot
This should help resolve the hung GPU error and should help with other games as well.
This is not a 100% fix but it should help.
This is a bad solution, because for other games, it's exactly what I need. So now I have to turn it on and off all the time...
Try setting the registry value I mentioned in my post above. Might prove to be a better solution for you.
