The thing is that stats are not important for sending people on missions in this game. I've never bothered checking stats short of when I was building my teams. It is quite pointless to worry about it since you can't really predict what stats you are going to need anyways.
Every class has their own strength and it is way more practical to focus on this since whenever you have to do a roll in a mission the game is either going to pick the person with the highest required stat to begin with or other times all you need is the actual class to be present to succeed.
As for training, all your gaters are going to naturally improve on whatever they did most before they level up. This heavily weight them to continue to improve on their class strength (as that's what they are used for most of the time) and so at the start of the game I usually only bother to build treadmills because that help level up their body (and thus hp, a stat every gater need) and it also help their morale at the same time.
