Tips for faction strategy.

I would like some tips for the factions, first when I encounter them they already a lot more area and influence gain than me.
Is there a way to stop relations deterioating? I try giving them metals in trade but my relation still drops and never increase.

Noone can give an answer on this? When I check event screen for a faction it always says I control a world they want and drop in relation. Long list of that and never any upwards/green arrow which I guess should show if I gain relationship with them.

There are some events when performing missions in their space that can lead to relations going up (or getting worse), but only option to improve relations steadily is to connect to their Homeworld and set up a recurring mission with your Diplomats. I am not even sure if giving gifts via trade screen does anything, at least I didn't manage to improve relations that way yet, but I didn't try hard to do it either.

Giving ore does give some but it is a very tiny amount. I know because on one game I had a faction go from neutral to hostile, so I immediately gave them 5 Cobbium and it went right back to neutral. That lasted about five minutes before they dropped backed to hostile again. Not worth it to me. As said above, diplomats on their homeworld or doing missions in their space is the best way. Or build up your army and prepare to fight.
