Complete museum after eliminating a faction ?

Real simple question, but I realized it far too late in the game. The way to get diplo artifact is to send a diplo team to a faction.
I eliminated a faction (the sssserpents) a long time ago. Is it possible to still get the diplo artifact linked to their faction ? Or is it game over and I have to restart ?

I don't believe you can get them in that case, which is a shame, would be cool to be able to get it (and maybe some of their Gaters, too?) through final blow mission.

I also just didn't get artifacts from two of my homeworld diplomat missions, I think it may be buggy?

It should work fine, Diplomats only have a chance to bring back artifacts from other empires, I got one on my first try and the other took something like 10+ missions.

So let the developers craft an archaeological mission to the former home world of the eliminated faction to dig for the artifact.
