Well, if you click "Single Player", you will see no "scenarios" available on the unmodded game. However, if you then click on "Play Now", or "Custom Game", you will see 2 options: "A New World" or "Caribbean". If you want any other scenarios, I think you have to download mods.
Yea but thats not all that came with the game. Those two are randomized maps, which is cool and all, but definitely not the same as most scenarios that the Civ games give on release. The other thread mentioning this same issue that offered no solution implied that before they made this game available for the MAC there were actually two scenarios (non randomized versions of both the New World and The Carribean). Apparently after they made it avaailable for MAC on steam, it messed up the scenarios made by the Civ team.

"A New World" IS the Americas. That said, the Indigenous people start in random locations. There are mods we can download to ensure they start in their real historical locations.
The thing is that there are supposed to be 4 scenarios in the scenarios menu: Western Hemisphere, Western Hemisphere Huge, Northeast passage and South America.
I am having the same problem on my PC but they show up on my mac. Just because they post it as a failure it doesnt mean it doesnt exist just because you have the very same failure.
Assuming that what you say about that other person is correct, then please be aware that it is you 2 who suppose that. The game makers didn't claim that, did they? Steam editions can be different to the non-Steam versions of games. "Shoulds" are subjectivem, in your mind, and vary from person to person. There is no "should" out here in the real world.
How about those of you who are concerned about this contact the companies that put the game on Steam (2K, valve, etc.)? That is an appropriate action. Complaining here will make no difference to this issue. Frankly, I'd like more game maps, too. But talking about it here won't achieve it. I won't take action, aside from this comment, because I have other priorities. All the best to you.
This guy is clearly trolling, ignore him.
I am also experiencing the same issue, and can confirm that more maps were available at release. Regardless of what the game makers might have claimed, there is no reason these maps should disappear from the Steam version, when they were there to start with.
In the meantime, you can use this mod to play the original maps: http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=19763
Install it in the Mods folder, load Colonization IV, go to the Load Mods menu, and load this mod. Once done, you will see a ton of new maps under scenarios.
I have taken the easy way. I just use the disk to play the game. It has the 4 scenarios with it and I am rejoying playing South America right now. I tried the scenario that comes with the Steam version (WBQuicksave).....it's kind of pathetic.
So, if any of you still have your original disk load it and play it instead of the Steam version
