Simple map option? Like the old imperialism II map?

Im old school, I like my map to be a map. What an idea. If I want an impressionist painting Ill go to a museum.
To me Imperialism 2, a great great game still available on GOG, is what I need. Heavy forest, light forest, hills and mountains depicted with clear uniform icons on a white background. Resources stand out like lighthouses. Borders are clear.
ONe look and I know where I am and where to go.
With the new style maps, its endless mousing over tooltips and trying to remember terrain, resources, etc.
Anyone with me? Any suggestions? I wish they would make these games with a simple map option, where you turn off the eye candy.
