Dear Folks,

As I recently recognized Colonization 2 is available on Steam and some of the new player here mentioned the same things which have mentioned in the past in all the relevant gaming forums, I think it make sense to give a hint that there exists a great forum (Civfanatics) which offer some great mods which have been published in the past. Some of them are still being developed and new versions are regulary published.

Religion and Revolution is a huge modification for Civilization IV: Colonization. I would say it is not only a mod, but it is a complete overhaul of the vanilla game. At first it was a spin-off of the German Mod "The Authentic Colonization" which has been finished some years ago. But over the years it has been developed to a complete self-contained mod for the game with a lot of new features:

- New game interface
- New game events that make the game more interesting
- New game achievements
- Complete new good system with its own trade route system
- Micromanagement can be done (but this is not a must-do)
- Complete overhaul of existing unit and building graphics
- New unit structure, in particular of the military units
- New units and new professions
- Additional native nations
- New leader traits of all existing leaders to make them more different
- Overhaul of the existing leader traits
- New port (Port Royal) that can be used for smuggling in the New World
- New (historical correct) maps
- New European Nations (Portugal, Denmark, Sweden and Russia)
- New city graphics and new map graphic
- New improvements on the map
- Wild animals on land and see
- New Founding Fathers
- Pirates which attack the player in middle and late game
- ...

The mod offers great opportunities for different player styles. You can of course settle in peace with the natives like the French, you can conquer the New World with the Spaniards, you can built a new nation with the British or bring one of the smaller nations into the New World like Sweden or Denmark.

If you like micromanagement you can spent hours for supplying your colonies or you can do just the "classic" trade with Europe as in the vanilla game.

You can create your own colonial empire until the increase of the taxes required the war of independence for indepence from the mother country.

The AI has been revised and works better than in vanilla. However, there is still room for improvement, since the vanilla AI is so bad.

The mod is still under development and new features and improvements are planned.

You are invited to have a look into the forum[forums.civfanatics.com]. Make yourself familiar with this great mod that will definitely give you a fantastic game experience.

And if you are a modder..of course you are invited to participate in the development of this mod as well!

Yeah I have seen this with the dutch and danish as well - on the highest difficulty here.
Never saw this in 2.6

There are a lot of flaws in the game/mods, even new ones in 2.7. I just live with them. What happens, happens. The Hand of God etc. After all, no-one in this age had direct knowledge of events occurring anywhere other than in their own locality. It could take months for news to arrive.

My #1 priority would be to reduce the time it takes to process a turn. I play on 150x300 maps with 32 factions. By 1650 it takes 2 minutes to process a turn on an i7-2600.

#2 would be using current money balance rather than end of turn balance when evaluating events.

Apart from that I'd be happy.

The AI did not receive any additional cheats in 2.7, but some of the AI logic was overhauled. They now focus more on producing bells and tradeable goods that will obtain the best price in either Europe or Africa rather than producing useless stuff that they did in 2.6. The AI is also able to buy slaves when returning from Africa in 2.7, so altogether, this should translate into faster economic development. I suppose it's flattering that you had to drop down in difficulty, I guess that means that I've succeeded in improving the RaR AI a bit :D

About the cheats:
I can confirm that slaves are able to found cities when under AI control. There are a bunch of cheats "under the hood" that are far more outrageous than this! I've been considering to compile a list of AI cheats, so these posts may motivate me to do so ;P . I hope that the AI will eventually reach the point where the cheats can be removed (the handicaps will stay though). As a player/developer I've always been at unease with the concept that the AI and human player play with different rules.

About the performance:
This is another big issue that I'm also working on. I've implemented multithreading in a private RaR build but I did not consider the code mature enough to be published so it will have to wait. We also need to revise some of the time wasting AI algorithms that only consume CPU without actually making the AI "smarter"

Problem...
Maybe you could help with?

I have native (russian) letters in the path to game config
Mean like:
C:/Users/Алиса/My Documents/My Games/Civilization IV Colonization
So it doesn't save properly - the path see the russian letters as яяяяя and the path to them are corrupt.
And installing your mod to that path brings many disruptions in the Map Builder (many things dissapeared like - tile descriptions and many things new are shown - like religios icons after settlements)
Maybe it is normal... but i hasn't saw that when played with RaR without bought Civilization copy
And because of that russian letters in the path - there are another problem - i can't patch the game to 1.01f
its status is just 1.01 (1200 000) and checking updates toesn't show any new
Could it be resolved somehow?

What about moving (or copying) the entire colonization game directory to a path without "special characters" like for example "c:\colonization\..." and then place the "Religion and Revolution" folder inside the subfolder "Mods" instead of putting it under "My Games". This should work without any issues (I have a setup like this, but not in russian though)

But doesn't know now - how @much@ it is right. Because when it was so-so bugged, in world builder i saw many intrestion icons at tribe camps with christian and other religions... possibly something doesn't work now...
btw, blah... mod loads, but city screen is just 1 tile patch... ahh! got what to do!

Ok. Schmiddi. You made me hot. I installed the Religion and revolution mod. Now explain me please how the traderoutes/import/export works. Iam getting crazy when tried to figure it out on my own. A link to an explination would be nice.
