Ultimate difficulty changes
Most of the videos about the difficulty settings are from before the very hard/ultimate difficulty was introduced in a patch.

Can someone tell me what exactly changes with that new setting?

Some of the accessibility options that make the game easy as hell get locked(no auto dodging, no time stop on switching spells, etc.), enemies have a bit more health and deal a bit more damage and your damage output is tied to your style score to the point you deal no damage at the lowest score so you have to play properly in order to even deal damage.

Under this difficulty setting, the following options will be locked to the following:

Spell-Switching Slowdown: NONE
Damage Received: DEFAULT
Stamina Recovery Speed: DEFAULT
Automatically Use Healing Items: OFF
Enemy Knockdown Time: DEFAULT
Auto-Evasion: OFF

In addition, the higher your battle grade, the more damage you will deal, and some of Frey’s attack and defense-boosting effects will be less potent. While this difficulty setting is probably more appropriate for those who have reached endgame Frey, you can choose to play at this difficulty when starting a new game. Just choose “Ultimate Mode” when prompted.

TLDR: some gameplay settings are locked. Your damage is reduced, but greatly increases when your battle rank is high.

Reminder there are in-game archives you can access at any time, e.g. about battle grading.

Thanks. I think that I wouldn't change those settings in the hard difficulty anyway so tying the damage to the battle rank is what would affect my experience the most. I'll give it a shot.
