But thats about it.
For the 70+ Price tag it truly deserved a spot at the biggest jokes gaming industry has ever come up with. After the mediocre overpriced FF7 remake, this puts a further nail in Square's reputation. Not to mention the degenerated voice acting.
But a 5/10 game is a boring game. Better to be completely bad than boring.
At least I can gift a 1/10 game to people I hate, or laugh at it with my friends.
5/10 game is useless. It's a waste of time to play with sea of 7/10+ games.
I was hoping maybe someone would create a mod where you can replace Frey with the crying witch from a DX12 tech demo. I think that will be cooler to have.
You and 300 other people on Steam.
As others stated - this game is 5/10 at a price people would only pay for a 20/10.
Its almost funny how its so expensive that even with a big discount it costs as much as a normal game and even the sale flopped since player numbers hardly changed.
Yes a bland and medicore story and open world wirth repetitive quests wont get better but people accept way more depending on the price.
Pretty much standard Isekai story with often cringy dialogue and the same dead open world like 99% of modern mass-produced open world games with lots of low effort repetitive quests similar to all the other bland open world games these days. The difference is - those games are cheaper and already have a fanbase for whatever reason.
I actually read the story summary but obviously i wont post a spoiler and its pretty much your standard isekai ... - with a minimalistic plottwist also used in some isekais that barely changes what it is.
I think you already have a rather narrow opinion you dont want to change anyways. Its pretty obvious what you wanted to indicate with your first post but i just ignored it because i think its trolling.
1) I'm a sucker for isekai as a genre.
2) I used to live in Manhattan.
3) Being born in the early 90s, the "cringe" dialogue reminds me of many early-mid-late 90s / early 2000s TV shows and movies. Thus, I guess cheesy and cringe dialogue reminds me of my childhood... somewhat.
4) I love open world games and exploring.
5) Adding on to me growing up with 90s / early 2000s forms of entertainment, the setting and fantasy world *very* faintly reminds me of a beloved 2000 mini-series I watched, called The 10th Kingdom. The show revolves around an alternate-universe fantasy version of Manhattan, and also deals with characters being transported from Manhattan to this fantasy land. However, this world is far more barren and didn't utilize as many magical creatures, which was a wasted opportunity.
For those reasons, I feel as though I have a sort of nostalgia towards this game that others simply might not. I didn't think that the story was too bland. However, the lore was very predictable. I saw the plot twist coming within the first 30 minutes of gameplay. Some things were surprises, but even those weren't fleshed out. They could have given us more fleshed out lore, more mythical creatures, more fantasy elements, and yes, they could have fleshed out the dialogue and main protagonist far better. It wasn't perfect, and I'm not coping with that by any means. I am well aware that it fell short of its actual potential, however, things don't have to be a 10/10 in order for people to enjoy them. Do I wish that this was a 10/10? Yeah, I do. Still, for the reasons listed above, it did feel like a game that was very up my alley in premise, warts and all.
