what's the current state of the game?

Not really interested in opinions on the MC's personality or the story. :)

I'm more interested in how playable and functional the combat is. The game is currently on sale. I was considering getting it. If the game is functional to a somewhat optimal degree, I'll get it.

I'm also curious if the devs are planning any DLC. If so, I'll likely postpone buying the game until they release the completed version

I brought it after the last patch resolved quite a few issues. You'll still run into some issues with playing on 8 GB of VRAM but it's lessened if you find the right settings.

The combat was always very functional. And probably the best magic combat in the industry (but that is an opinion). They added some quality of life for combat, they fixed ambient occlusion and light so the game makes more sense visually, they did some patches for the optimization, not perfect but almost 60fps+ all the time now, will drop when in combat to 48fps. That's with a Ryzen 7 2700 + RX 6600.

As for an upcoming DLC, it's hard to tell since Luminous Productions employees will merge with Square Enix May 1. Probably to move on to other projects.

runs pretty well on a 10GB 3080 and i7 8700k. Mostly 60+ fps, there are rare dips into the 50s due to my CPU, at max settings with RT disabled at 4K with DLSS on Quality.

As of right now DLC is officially happening, whether that gets cancelled remains to be seen.

This only happened for me regularly with ray tracing enabled. It still happens every once in awhile when switching between cutscenes and gameplay.l but it's definitely not a regular occurrence and I haven't seen it during actual gameplay

Depends a bit on what pc you will be running it on. I played it on 3080 and i7 9700k and for the most played at 60 fps in 1440p. Raytracing off.

I ran it on a laptop 3070 without any major problems but with so many variations in hardware it is really hard to say if the game will be functional on your machine. AFAIK when the devs patch the main game they also patch the demo with the same fixes so it is perhaps best to just download that and judge for yourself.
