Game is bad and the Developer disbanded.
You won't have to wait since the game was a huge failure and the studio closed down.
In theory, a Forspoken 2 could be the next Horizon Zero Dawn as well, but management and development team need to learn the lessons from the reviews and from what people tell them here. There needs to be openness to doing things differently and thinking out of the box.
Many things have already been said about the game.
On the technical side, Unreal Engine 5.1 would be an interesting place to start, also the gaming experience needs to be streamlined, Forspoken 2 needs to be much more fluent outside of combat (no standstill while having a chat, no fade to black) and a lot of effort needs to be put into finding a way to make the open world filled with interesting things such as "proper life".
A good place to start would be to only set two things in stone:
a) The existing, now canon, lore
b) The fact that this is a magic parcour game
Everything else should be done from scratch. This may mean keeping Frey or not keeping her, this may mean "more cuff" or "no cuff", doesn't really matter that much (although I have a preference for the duo Frey + Cuff).
Problem here will be a psychological one: developers of all trades usually love their product and method of working. Getting people to jump over the fence and rethink everything will be a hard part of it.
I have seen companies pull it off, though. Compare the relatively mediocre D:OS 1 with the intense, beloved D:OS 2, for example.
Honestly, I stand by what I said a few times already: the GAME itself IS good. I've played through it and I will write a full review a bit later (or tomorrow). I may even go for 100% in this game, would be the second game ever I do this in (first one was Horizon Zero Dawn). Problem is that many things not directly part of magic parcour + blowing stuff up are too slow, they feel like a drag. And lifelessness of the world, as well as the horribly optimized engine.
All of this CAN be solved.
Just for a moment: imagine Forspoken with fast paced Cipal, no annoying cut scene behaviour and better pacing between the chapters. And much more optimization. Also a reasonable pricing, of course.
My bet: we would have a 85% positive reviews game at hand and discuss how much we look forward to more of it.
Won't happen SE and it's investors aren't going to pump money in a sequal of which the original lost them money.
The difference between D: OS and Forspoken is D: OS actually was a great game with an even better sequal and D: OS made Larian money instead of making a loss.
The game play loop of combat and movement are all pretty good. But the rest of the game not so much.
Do you think Forspoken with say, a mod or DLC that changes the main character/storyline to something else would solve this?
My advice is to go and read some of the reviews on steam. And also checkout Youtube and such. You'll get a much greater understanding why this game failed as it did.
And don't listen to one persons opinion.
Agreed. =)
