My settings guide is max everything except motion blur and ray traced shadows and turn vsync off.

Thanks for this, I tried some other recommended settings similar to this and the game still has odd frame time spikes that feel like stutters or the frame time spike is so high that the game literally pauses. An article on The Verge showed an option to add a command to the launch options of the game so that it makes it run w/o the use of DirectStorage but I did that and the frame times were even worse. So it seems like this game needs DirectStorage left on because of the constant texture streaming. I've gotten to a point in the game where I've unlocked more magic and it's fun but hindered because the performance of the game is not smooth.

Please always post your specs. You wrote that it's AMD 7700X, OCed AMD Radeon RX 7900XT 20GB VRAM, 32GB RAM, Samsung 980 Pro M.2 SSD. So your settings are good for gamers with powerful computers.

Honestly did you guys really notice much beyond standard? I put some side by side maybe if you look closely but just during normal play with VRS off I really didn't see much visual upgrade with the higher settings

I only have experience with the demo, but I haven't found the completely satisfying settings for i5-10400F, 16GB RAM, 3060ti, NVMe SSD. The game seems just technically unpolished and I'll wait for updates.

I just leave everything standard, disable vsync, and run performance for whichever graphics technology and that seems to be the best really and it still drops in certain areas to low 30s

Not for several settings. If you want to see a comparison I put a response to OP's other similar thread here https://steamcommunity.com/app/1680880/discussions/0/3766733359271659884/

I found that AO's settings are likely the cause of most people's stuttering issue. Follow slight change as mentioned and even mid range cards may be able to crank other settings and resolution up with much better performance results. May be worth trying and seeing if it helps for anyone having stuttering issues or general performance problems.

Just keep in mind that with these settings you WILL run into issues in certain areas with a card with 8GB VRAM or less due to memory setting set to High. Esp. at 1440p or higher.

If you want to maximize and stabilize FPS prioritize the texture/model memory settings. So standard or lower for cards with 8GB or less. High and up for cards with more.

Also keep in mind that certain areas are leaky and will end up consuming all your VRAM over time regardless.

Last, but not least: low shadow settings also reduce draw distance for shadows a lot. It’s a very noticeable setting and I found it butt ugly.

Wow. This game needs a "settings guide"? No matter what I do, textures are blurry as they can be. Even on Ultra it sometimes looks like PS2-graphics. Devs, get your stuff together. Thank G, there is a demo version and I did not acutally pay (this horrendous price!) for an absolutley unfinished product.

I think this guide and the various user tips may help a little if someone wants to play right away. But the only thing that can help properly is for the developers to finish and fix the game.

Just like RDR2!

That's a very helpful guide, thanks OP.

My own experience matches a lot of this article. (12700k / 4070ti / 32gb DDR4) Reflections, fog, and shadows seem to be major performance-killers in this game, it's recommended you turn those down to standard/low. Setting texture memory down to standard helps a lot too since this is a very VRAM hungry game.

Both ray-tracing options don't seem to add much to image quality and can be safely turned off. DLSS and FSR also supposedly add a big boost in performance but I haven't tested myself.
