What you can do is save, loop back to the same save point for free in order to reclaim your previous highest levels, then continue like that. I made new saves both for the End-of-floor and Beginning-of-floor savepoints in order to record my current levels before advancing each time I went through the dungeon.
Like the previous poster said, the savepoints will save your highest-reached levels. When I needed sadness points for loops I just grinded on floor 3 and then proceeded to the King once I felt strong enough. I think the highest the rest of the party got was level 56 or 57?
That being said though, once I entered Act 4, I was able to get by just fine with an under-leveled party starting from the very bottom. Eventually there is a Memory skill that will grant your party (not Siffrin) double XP if you absolutely want to grind, but it really isn't necessary - truly.
