UI and controls are better since you can adjust your hotkeys ingame without a 3rd party app which is new and probably the best feature. Graphics are HD which is new for the franchise. Game play in general is faster paced so you won't experience many, if any, hour+ long matches. Similar to every other CoH there is a meta that has to be played to be competitive. Currently, there isn't much of a selection of different Battlegroup features to allow much variety in gameplay and there is a severe lack of maps to play on.
There will be a patch for the 1 year anniversary which will add a few more. Not enough imo. If there is a sale, which is within your budget, and you're interested in a more modern CoH sure. If you're looking for a solid RTS game I dunno. Maybe something like Starcraft 2/AoE4 would be a better choice.
I just feel like the genre in general is in its last dying breaths.
The game is broken and the devs are either not allowed to fix it or they just don't care.
The new maps coming out are just old maps from the previous games because it's to hard to put in effort to make new ones.
the last patch in december improved the game in many different aspects.
i recomend it this will be a great game in some time when tehy ad new battlegroups and balance
And this is a good challenge
Action straight away unlike other strategy games where you build for 10 minutes then your teammate quits etc, this doesn't happen in this game - much better COH
The UI looks good to me, haven't tried COH 2, but tried other RTS' that were critically acclaimed, with a much worse UI than this, needing hundreds of UI mods. This UI fits my monitor perfectly
Is it better than CoH 2 on release or the original shipped CoH 1 version? Yes, by far. Can it compare to what CoH 2 has become after years of live service or after they fixed up CoH 1? Yesn't - CoH 3 is a good game by their release standards, I'd however suggest buying it on sale like it's the case with most other games unless you're a big fan of a series and know how things work out with the company you're buying from.
Edit: Also if you'd want alot of maps to play on, wait a bit more, there's not too many maps in yet, so.. in that case it's probably worth holding back 1 or 2 more years.
