Indian Artillery's BL 5.5 Inch Emplacements not Direct Firing

In the Italian Campaign there is a Skill upgrade for the Indian Artillery Company that supposedly allows the BL 5.5 Inch Emplacement to fire at any enemy in it's arc of fire. I have tried to get this to work but nothing happens even if the enemy units are directly in front of the gun, there is a clear fov, and at multiple ranges from 3 tank lengths to across the map. Is this feature bugged or is Direct Fire mean something else?

I'm f'n glad I didn't blow skill points on those. As fluid as the skirmishes are I thought this was a waist anyhow.

this still doesn't work. The artillery just sits there doing nothing unless you order a barrage.

It's been working for me historically but I've not checked since the last update.

I had a bug where it wouldn't fire at all once though. That was annoying!
