CoH 3 - dwindling playerbase
I have been keeping an close eye on CoH3, since i'm a huge fan of CoH2, and i see the player base of CoH3 keeps getting smaller, and even worse off than other games in the series, i did play the beta for CoH3, but honestly, it do not feel like a competitive game at all.

can it be saved with enough changes?

COH3 is just like its previous iterations but has tried to add small changes like tactical pause, troops vaulting over things, troops riding on back of tanks, land height changes and tactical fire (up high advantage), tanks drive over many obstacles now, etc... The changes have been very good and the game play is excellent. The issue is it was rushed out by the publisher so some things were not complete at launch like... progression system, more maps, campaign was lacking, AI needed work. This months patch should resolve many of the complaints of people. Mark my word, if the progression system is good COH3 will be right on par with the rest of the series and by Christmas at the latest be the dominate game played. Matter of fact after the July patch we should start to see an up tick of people moving over to 3. My brother and I love the game, for us we play against the AI and miss a progression system (wins/losses or private to general)... game also needs maps and quality map makers from COH2 to come over and get busy. Lots of the user made maps have errors and problems with them which I hate, we need some 5 star map makers like in COH2.

Even No Man's Sky made a comeback, mate. Anything can be "saved" with enough effort being put into it.

So, there is another kind of question: are Sega willing to put all the pre-order money to finalise CoH3 or just throw it away, like they did with DoW3? Personally, I believe into my own experience with this publisher and from it, CoH3 is already dead.

poor matchmaking should be the devs priority atm.

the engoodening of coh3 ?

Technically anything can be 'engoodened'

No one should be encouraged to be the next No Man's Sky though, this game is not on No Man's Sky release level which took almost 3-4 years to correct (its actually a bit better on release)

Relic are also not on Hello Games' level, the latter could be forgiven on their first close to AAA release with Sony support, Relic should actually be better since they done this many times before

All we can do now is wait

Not going to happen man, Relic is not going to let both series die, these 2 series are what put Relic on the map... no way that happens, too much pride to go out that way.

Did you also keep a close eye on CoH2 when its playerbase was dwindling after release or did you become a huge fan after you picked it up for free with years of support behind it?

CoH2 is one of the worst games ever released in history and should be removed and banned on steam because Relic totally scammed us who pre ordered it. They showed a complete different game in alpha and beta (closer to COH1) and suddenly the release was something totally different with day 1 pay to win DLC commanders and EVEN TIGER was locked behind paywall. Not only they didn't fix it but they kept adding DLC commanders for the first 3 years, I am guessing you picked COH2 when it started to go on 90% sale offs and free give aways with all DLCs etc.

COH2 playerbase died so fast on early years that they wanted to shut down coh2.org as well as the game. The only reason COH2 has a lot of player base now is because of 3 times free give aways each year by Sega in the past + 90% sale off (included all DLCs) + the game is extremely noobish friendly and casual that anyone with any skill level can play it and win it.

COH1 on the other hand was made for absolute professionals with certain set of skills and COH3 tried to be COH1+COH2 but since they totally messed up the launch it just died and it will be dead.

Yeah, it's almost like no one wants to remember that at some point CoH2 also had under 1K players online at any time during the early years.

CoH3 will be fine with continued patching. Forums are a drama wonderland, no need for such negativity.

Amen to that.

This is becoming funny to read. Do you guys really need to lie to yourself by bashing coh2 ? Coh2 had a slow start at release but for different reasons. It was mainly the storms which paused the game and the balance which was poor at begining. But the game in itself was complete, well done with good mecanics and good feeling of ww2 immersion.

Coh3 is complete oposite . Everything was poorly done , animations ,game mecanics ,the sound and I wont speak about the content and the beta state for high price. However, its main problem is base core and that wont be corrected and even with some investment, it will head towards the same path as dow3. The game with 0 immersion with mobile gameplay and awful syncronisation of animations, sound and movement.

The playerbase is not dwindling. Stop making up stuff. The player count has been stable the last month, which you can clearly see on Steam Charts.
Now unfortunately (but deserved), the playerbase is also low. But it's not declining. But it's also not rising. Just stable low amount. CoH 2 however has as good as exactly three times as many players.

Exactly. Like Dawn of War 3, the developers tried to expand their playerbase into other markets. And like Dawn of War 3, they failed. They didn't learn from that and now another great series is at the brink of destruction. Thanks Relic! Thanks Sega!

Did you read that before posting? A game that needs to be restarted every 3 matches to avoid crashing is the opposite of stable.

Dude you do make some good sense but defending COH2 is just a joke, have you forgotten until the first 4 years we had almost no dedicated maps???? At least until 2017 as far as I remember all 2v2 maps were 4v4 maps as well. Pretty much the same lazy work COH3 has done with 1v1 and 2v2 maps that they are just smaller version of the 2v2 map but COH2 had the worst version, you were playing 1v1 or 2v2 on the same scale big 3v3 and 4v4 maps because they couldn't bother make maps for each game mode.

Have you forgotten the super small Langres 2v2 map? WHich was a 1v1 map but also you could get it in 2v2, same with Semois + The farm? CoH2 was disaster it was literally a failed CV.

COH2 now is still disaster it is just a "mod" not an official game, when you handle the game to RTS modders they always ruin it because they just wanna add as much as units possible for their "comp stomp" games and it ruins the multiplayer. COH2 has like 10000 different units and 90% of them have same stats it is just different skins. Look how lazy design the capturing system was, they could not even be bothered to make a proper resource point like coh1 and coh3 so they put both fuel and ammo on SAME spot.

There was NO base building for 3 factions, the base building is literally the fundamental of RTS games like COH and Command and Conquer, may I remind you the MAIN reason C&C4 failed so hard and it killed the franchies was removal of base building and making it a "call in" unit game like COH2?
