USF Mechanized Support Center (Improvised Armor)
Just did a test with cheat commands, against WHER Pak Gun and Panzer 4s against US Shermans (195 base frontal armor) and Bulldozer 105 Sherman (240 base frontal armor) after the improvised armor researched it brings them to 234 and 288 frontal armor. German pak gun and pz4 pen both before upgrade with ease, after the upgrade the only change in this test was the 105 had a slight chance of increase to bounce, the rest of the usf armor didnt stand a chance for any promising bounce. mind you it only cost 20 fuel for this upgrade. but i don't understand the purpose or utility for this upgrade. 20 fuel could be spend better in many more ways. maybe it would stand a better chance against dak? (didn't test) but someone explain why you would ever use this against wher. do you think it could use some changing? cost more do more?? Im not complaining by any means just looking to hear from others what they think. I Know usf tanks arent suppose to beat wher in a 1v1 but explain the purpose of this upgrade and why you think it worth going for if it is..

I never get that upgrade anymore. Indeed, for the cost it doesn't really seem to do anything to improve unit performance.

It might be more dramatic for lighter vehicles, but by the time the upgrade is available, light vehicles aren't viable anymore. It's a solid skip, use your MP for some other upgrade/unit.

Two things to take into consideration:

Improvised Armor also reduces the damage from Panzerschrecks. Out of my head for a Sherman it reduces it from 160 to 120.

Regarding the increased armor values you provided, Bulldozer from 240 to 288.
A Pak 40 has a drop off in penetration from mid range (35m) to max range (60m) from 260 penetration to only 130 penetration.
Lets assume it hits the Bulldozer from about 45m with assumed 200 penetration. Then the chance for the projectile to bounce increases from 17% without Improvised Armor to 31% chance with IA.
From close range to mid range the AT gun penetration goes from 380 to 260, so it wont matter if you closing in.

Never knew that about shrek dmg reduction, that sheds some light making the upgrade useful in just knowing that. thank you for sharing. with the other information you gave is there a resource you get this information? or through play testing? I'm curious to find more useful information like this :D

no, total hp amounts remain unchanged, only changes to armor values

I do get the stats from coh3stats.com.

If you are a bit more proficient, which I am not, you can get into the editor for CoH3 for even more detailed information. I have seen that for example on several Tightrope YT videos. Maybe someone more knowledgeable you can you advice about that.

The CoH3 stats, among other data, gives you weapon stats for close, mid and max range. For in between I have guessed the 200 penetration for a range between mid and max range in that example, but it should be in that ballpark. I don't know the exact drop off graph.

Chance for penetration is simply armor value divided by penetration value.
