Can you send detachments on to a ship for transport?

I need to get to Anzio but no idea how as it's blocked. I can't deploy from a ship as my population cap is reached and can't work out how to put detachments back on the ship to send them there.

You can't put a detachment back on a ship, but you can garrison them in a harbour and move them from there. You can also take Anzio by dropping an Airborne company over it by using a transport plane.

ok so I put an airborne detachment in an airfield, and my transport plane has the option but the curser changes to disabled when hovering over anzio, and I've no way of getting a detachment to a ship in time to get to anzio before monte casino gets bombed

I had the same issue. My companies weren't in a position to prevent the bombing. Planes have a maximum range so you might have to capture an airfield closer to Anzio and try from there.
