If you click on Monte Casino itself, it will give you a list of side objectives you need to complete one of those first before you can assault Monte Casino.
Depending on what you did at the start, the easiest is either to silence Anzio Annie, or capture all the ports in the Adriatic (right side of the map)
I did Anzio Annie.
Once you complete that mission you can assault Monte Casino. Though I dont know if it makes any difference to the actualy mission, I think it only gives you a buttload of loyalty points with all 3 advisers and some bonus resources.
So I couldn't reach Anzio from the port next door, so I ended up requesting troops via a battleship, then transferring the ship to the sea buoy next to Anzio, then landing them from the ship. Took a few turns to figure it out!
I'm not sure I did this right. I got the achievement for saving it but but it still showed it being bombed. Is there a different cinematic if it's not bombed?
All anzio annie was was constant bombing of your closest territory each round until you stopped it.
In real life the allies bombed monte casino because the men felt that it was being used for artillery spotting etc.
In reality the germans made a promise to the local population not to use it or even have any soldiers near it.
The mission in game filled the place with germans defending. The naziz have don enough horrible things to prove without a doubt that they were really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bad. Why create more imaginary crimes when you can just point something that actually happened.
I found Anzio the most difficult mission in the game. Maybe its because I threw a fresh company at it that I just bought while my experienced one sat outside Monte Casino, but Anzio genuinely kicked my ass twice trying to get up to the cannon before the deadline with a british tank company.
The mission I remember thinking this is proper COH was the Portenza. Good map, fun mission. A few of the loyalty missions are good fun (the solo british tank one is fun but short)
I have to choose between capturing anzio and monte cassino bombing quests because I don't have enough time to do both
