Does the Dynamic campaign work?
Hey guys I have one question about the Dynamic campaign as I am a huge fan of company of heroes and Total War. When you engage in a skirmish from the campaign map do you still have buildings from which you build units or do you merely have the limited units you recruited on the campaign map? The reason why I ask is because when I played the demo it didn't matter what units I recruited on the campaign map as in skirmish mode I was just able to build a base and recruit new units which made no sense.

no it's not a real total war experience from what I read. Supposedly really limiting and a lot of the AI's actions are already programmed to behave a certain way automatically without any randomness. Someone else might chime in more though

I did the tutorial and am about to get into the main part of the campaign today. If you've only done the tutorial, it is extremely dumbed down and limited. I'm pretty sure you can do some builds in the skirmish maps as they happen, but will see it for myself later today. I wouldn't be surprised if some battles are a bit more restricted or pre-set if it's meant to represent a specific scenario. (maybe something like the quest battles in TW Warhammer)

Have you tried the campaign map. I'm keen to hear people's reviews on this before I pick it up

You recruit companies (armies would be the closes TW referance) and move them on the map to capture points from the enemy. As these armies level up they gain new abilities (like upgrades or troops you can train) and can make emplacements that effect the map like supply points and aa/artillery emplacements.

Once a company enters battle for a story location you run through a semi scripted mission using the company that entered. You build a base and can only train units listed in that companys troop selection.

random battles are the same, minus the mission script. Youll be given a random objective to win the skirmish.

Its total war-esque in the sense you have an overworld map and move companies around, but plays nothing like total war.

It kind of depends on what they throw at you.
I'm not sure if this is exactly how it works but the unit you use and how it's leveled does affect the RTS skirmish. The more experienced the unit is I think it gives you some already built buildings making the battle easier because you didn't need to save resources to build them.
Some missions and skirmishes don't allow you to build and what they give you is all you have to work with. I'm playing this for the campaign and I'm really enjoying it but the campaign part is no grand strategy type of game play.

Thats pretty good, so you are limited to what units you came into the battle with. It makes you think how to manage the campaign map more and resources. Why then do so many people dislike it? It's far better than the linear campaigns which have less re-playable value

You're not limited to what troops you have with the company, but the type of company you engage with determines the extras you get.

I haven't played the Italian campaign for very far yet. It is dynamic enough to call it such, but it just doesn't flow as well as traditional CoH campaigns. I like the Africa operations more.

But the good news is you can play both and enjoy either or both modes.

Yea i like that they have both campaign types. I wonder if modders can save the grand campaign mode
