It is stupid but they've been doing it for years, not really anything new. The swastika was in fact used by Nazi Germany during World War II, and Nazi Germany is in fact one of the forces represented in Company of Heroes franchise, ergo there should be Swastikas in the name where appropriate and consistent with historical accuracy.

I've heard that that had changed a few years ago to allow for it's inclusion in historically based entertainment but developers continue to refuse to render it because of the potential bad publicity.

One, removing the swassy is majorly in part to prevent a crusade of social media / gaming review / main news network against the game for using the swassy. Second, the only comment I read that wasn't garbage or rage bait was the individual who used "those who don't learn history are doomed to repeat it". There are younger generations who actually don't know who Stalin/Hitler/Mao/Mussolini/Pol Pot/Idi Amin were. We will return to another great war between Left vs Right and it is ultimately inevitable because of censorship and propaganda. The swassy being removed isn't a big deal personally but it's evidence that we are escalating into censorship due to fear of outlash and virtue signalling.
