Suggestion: Sprinklers
I would like to make a large farm plot just to do it, but would like a more cozy approach with a sprinkler system to keep the farm plots wet and from disappearing from being dry too much. You could make it to where we could feed water into the system and it would last for a couple days at a time before needing to be refilled.

I apologize if this is a dumb suggestion. I don't think these things through, so it helps if someone reads it and then lets me know of any setbacks or issues this would cause.

A sprinkler system would be a passive solution, and those quickly lead to boredom. What would be cool, though, is a new mech mode for larger scale irrigation and fertilizing that looks something like this.

or you could build a greenhouse that you then fill a water tank for and one of the oils or something to fuel weed defence
you still get the busy work but can roam a little further

So wait... there's no sprinkler system? In a game with farming elements?
Seriously?
You get a water cannon upgrade that can hit like fifty plants at a time.

yes
mad I know but I suspect it has something to do with the "early" part of EARLY ACCESS

almost like it is an unfinished game you access early!
who knew!
if only they had warned you right?

indeed and I doubt this will be everything come end of development

Yes, I get it's in early access. It's just that things like sprinklers tend to be one of the first things added. With how much other content is already in, it seems strange not having something as basic as that.

you sound insufferable.

A sprinkler system wouldn't lead to boredom.. wdym? its a farming game... a farming game needs a sprinkler system. A bigger mech wouldn't solve anything. People want a passive solution so it would be one less thing they have to worry about

imagine being this butt hurt about a legit discussion comment. they are right, a sprinkler is a small thing that could've been put in when the game got released in early access. its a lot less complex to make unlike a majority of the items we have now. It's just obvious you like starting problems

Then why not also have an automatic harvest vacuum and upgraded perennial seeds you don't need to replant? The vacuum and sprinkler could even take care of weed and pollution events. You could have the farm totally take care of itself while you, I dunno, watch cat videos or something.

Farm chores like watering crops aren't a bother. They're the potatoes to this game's meat of mining and foresting. Upgrades to it should make it better, more interesting to do, more expressive to use. If nobody wants to do it, and removing it i the course of progression causes no problems, then it likely added nothing to the experience in the first place.

It should be noted that watering with the charge shot synergizes with the plow upgrade. The area you can water quickly outstrips the sizes of growing beds. It becomes much for efficient to plow an area large enough to use the upgrade water cannon's full coverage range. The tools you gain as you progress present you with an opportunity for clever design in your land cultivation. Little experiential nodes like this are where you get to have your Ben the Spaceman moments.

That's why I suggested a sprayer mode which might share this synergy. A mode where you run the mech up and down the fields, arms outstretched with hoses run along them, nozzles efficiently spot spraying water and/or fertilizer as needed, this would be a powerful new tool with which to design and work your farm. This sounds a lot more fun than a sprinkler cloistered in a cluster of grow beds that you hardly ever touch.

I like this idea a lot. That's why I said what I said to see what would come out of this discussion and this mech upgrade would be awesome to have :)

I would like to see an automated farming plot, with built in sprinklers. It would require a water tower built within range. Every morning it automatically waters itself, using up water from the tower. And the player is tasked with keeping an eye on the water levels in the tower.

The tower itself could have upgraded versions. Such as larger capacity ones. Or one that's set up to catch rainwater to fill itself.
Eventual automation is a draw in farming games at least to me.

as a solo player i'd love some automation so i have enough time to just collect other resources and enjoy the really nice looking world. and if you ever played games like satisfactory, automation won't lead to boredom. you always find ways to improve and optimize your stuff or in another game called "scrap mechanic" you can build such machines yourself for passive farming. i mean, if you don't like it you wouldn't have to use it. when playing with other people things will happen without your doing as well...
