Find the flowers as stated on the map ie yellow, blue etc its a mission top left of your game screen.

Scroll the arrow around the map and it shows you them.

Craft the paint station. Craft 1 of each color it will start unlocking a bunch of different colors craft those unlocked colors and so on. If you don't craft the color it will not unlock the next color you must craft at least 1 of each color. You'll need to craft the mixer also think that's what its called. That blends all the custom colors. There are a bunch of colors.

Also worth mentioning (I saw someone else stuck on this part): Your paint gun is a tool you use as a farmer outside your mech. Switch tools the same way you would in your mech. The paint has to be in the mech's inventory to be used. Point and shoot the paintgun at buildings, machines, or sections of your mech. You get a preview of how it will look before you fire.
