I basically never got a turn, and don't know what I could have done differently, short of having somehow gotten stun protection on everyone preemptively (hope for item luck?) I can't choose my formation going in, which makes setting up one that is not vulnerable to this something of a pipe dream.
Can't speak to his actual haunt debuff, as it was not active, but I feel like a haunt I'm a level up on should probably not chain-stun my party to death from a speed so high that I don't get to, y'know, act about it.
