Summoning might need rebalancing

There's no limit how many times you can summon, and the summons deal A TON OF DAMAGE. They carried me through the first chapter. Great game though.

please please please do not rebalance it summoning is sooooo freaking fun dude it literally gave me and my friends the time of ours lives summoning dude we got freaking armies that dealt crazy damage too it is actually hilarious, just make the book harder to get or something please don't nerf it to the ground

The fact summons do damage and are useful is a good thing. The book might need max number of uses or only one summon per battle limit though.

Simple change that could work:
Increase the rolls for the skill and decrease the accuracy. This means to actually be able to summon you would be encouraged to spend focus. This still allows you to do a powerful summoner build as there's quite bit of tools to regenerate focus (pipes that give focus on herb usage, refocus passive skill that scholar comes with, etc..) but it wouldn't be basically free.

It might even make sense to change the roll type to Luck, this would then have you decide to go with focus build or squishy luck build to get those summons in exchange of low armor / res, luck equipment is also quite rare and I'm not aware of any luck build that would actually work in combat, so this could be interesting. But as it is right now, the cost is too low and the utility you get is insane, the summoning book is pretty much "I win" item right now.

I definitely think it needs an accuracy nerf and/or a limited amount of summons per battle.

They do insane amounts of damage and can act on the same round they're summoned.

No I just found it randomly. best weapon in the game for mages without a doubt, check quests and markets, I believe the name is greater dark tome.

Must be a really rare pickup then, I've done about 6 campaigns and done all town quests, caves etc. but haven't seen it. Thanks for the reply

An easy fix would be to just limit the summon to 1 per battle. That would mean you also get to use the other spells the weapon has. And they would still probably be considered S tier tbh. Win-Win.

2 summons max, if one dies you get another spot
Still boring though, I loved having just a gigantic army with my friends of just undead soldiers. was a blast. just nerf their damage but keep some form of HP

While I have not been able to experience the majesty of the Dark Tome, from what I have gathered and observed. It could probably use some rebalancing~

Not sure that will be an easy task tho, Summoning is always going to be powerful. Just by the nature of adding to the turn/target order. Adding a bunch of unique mechanics and caveats to the book itself is maybe good in the long run if they can leverage those into other gear items but kind of a lot of work for one item.

At the end of the day the key is keeping things fun while not being super over or under powered and that is a tall order.
