Unbalanced or just a string of bad luck?
I am curious if anyone else is experiencing this issue. We've seem to hit a wall around level three where the enemies get increasingly difficult. Hunter, Herb, Stable hand and Mage. The only enemies around were all lvl 3 and we were facing the waves of queens guard. We had no other choice but to take on an enemy to level. Each of the players has at least two gear items to boost their stats and we were level 2.

We engage three different enemies. The first round were wolves. We missed 50% of our attacks. Wolves missed 20% of theirs. We lose two hearts and move on with our loot. Hit up an Imp, had and two marauders. Our party again, misses 50% of their attacks... Enemies misses only 4 times out of 5 turns. We again, loss two hearts. Still no gear and nothing worth the fights.

Enter our last battle hoping for something good. Three Blue jellies jump us. We managed to kill one in 7 rounds...

Is there something about level 3 that just bumps the game off the charts or something?

I've played about 100~ hours of FTK1, and I would venture a guess that FTK2 is a bit overtuned right now.

We ended our play session last night when our level 2 party with 35-40HP encountered a group of 4 enemies with 50+ HP, the "leader" having 90+ HP and them ALL hitting for 20+ damage every round.

Jesus, that's really bad. What happen to any QA work or beta testing?

What level were the enemies?

how do you manage to only have 2 items per guy at lvl 2 when the enemies are 3?
meaning you SHOULD be close to lvl 3 and have had enough gold to get cheap stuff to fill the empty slots.
i will say however that FTK2 is far more difficult than the first one. a big enemy at lvl 3 can do 50 single target dmg with a max roll.
we have some enemies with a dodge stat so insane that you pretty much need to use focus to guarantee a hit just like evasive enemies.

i won the first campaign on my second run. first run i got smacked in the head at lvl 2. next run i won at lvl 7.

The game is difficult for sure, but generally speaking; You have to make your turns matter. Take fights, get items, and make progress as often as you can. Tempo matters, and it sounds like you fell behind in tempo.

theres a bit of a learning curve for even the vets in this one. yes its suppose to be hard/ too hard at first. the first one had to add a message at start saying "dont expect to beat the map after a few play thrus"

the game is too hard. on FTK 1 it was balanced. now iam fighting with level 0 against level 1-2 enemies with over 90HP in the first "tutorial missions" in act 1 under time pressure on easy difficulty :steamdeadpan: wtf

It's pretty alright, every run I learn more as to what to do and what not to do. You definitely need to think about every turn and use it wisely. When you end up losing, don't blame the game to a certain extent as there can be bad rng sometimes, but think about what you could have done differently for next run.

It is a timed event... there isn't a lot of time, quick decisions had to be made. I also got a lot of doubled items that really didn't help.

It seems like you get stronger a lot faster than in ftk1, but the enemies also get stronger a lot faster. Which means the difference between level 0 and level 1 is much higher.
but yes, taking 40 damage to the face at level 4 despite having 20 armor doesn't feel right. They can definitely tune it better.

Feels like early game level scaling is too fast. You need to roll good gear to keep up with the curve. And its much easier to fall off because you need good weapon and armor for 4 characters instead of 3.

Maybe the number of items in each shop should scale to the number of players

Enemies scale up in multiplayer, I did a run where enemies had that kinda health you ran into, then I went into singleplayer and noticed the health values were lower than what they were with a 4 stack.

Honestly from having played a lot of FTK1 the balancing still feels like it's in beta, which is really disappointing. We're basically done playing until some (if any) patches release to fix it.
DuncDog Nov 3, 2023 @ 8:46pm
Everyone needs to keep in mind that this game had closed beta testing, and the version of FTK1 you are comparing it to had YEARS of balance patches and refinement. A fairer comparison would be FTK1's release state to how 2 is now.

See similar complaints nearly every time a sequel comes out that is a bit "off" on the curve compared to what came before and had years and years of polish. No ♥♥♥♥ it is going to be a bit less polished comparatively.
