you would likely each controll 2 or 3 chjaracters each. similar to current game where you have the first player controll 2 of the 3 characters

In FTK 1 my wife and I only played with two characters and were able to beat everything on the second difficulty level. So if it's anything like the first you aren't required to control all of them. It kinda balances out with XP, money, items etc the fewer you have on the team.

I think it should balance the difficulty around 2, 3 & 4 players. I think 3 and 4 would be easy. 2 is where it would need a much larger dynamic shift as support abilities would be less relevant there.

Keep the game balanced for all group sizes because we don't want to have a player control an extra character.

Except it's a very hard game and likely impossible with less without balance for it; we had three and never beat the first one on hard. I like the game to be hard but it needs to be possible. I like the fact a group of four can play together now but I just don't want that to negatively impact a group of three or two.

The original is balanced fine with 2. Basically, 2 characters will get more XP and gold than 3. Ive beaten the game with 2 and 3, and it is basically the same.

Your 2 characters will not want for gold and xp vs 3 basically having to share stuff a lot more and not being as highly geared up mid game.

In summary, it is fine with 2, albeit the very beginning of the game may seem a little tougher to be honest.

There is also the point in FtK 1 that if playing with 2 characters, battles will only draw in two monsters instead of three, which is another big balancing act. Only parts that can be difficult are pre-set boss battles with two minions on their sides.

But yeah, I have high trust in the developers for doing something similar for FtK 2 as well.

It doesn't feel balanced for two people, spawning 4 enemies that can kill one or both party members in one round is already a problem on top of those fights being forced on a world turn timer. I'm already feeling I'd have more fun in a custom game with no timer just so my duo can grind gear to deal with that phase or those type of encounters in the story. At the moment they feel like needless resource drains with no rewards.

Hey all! Just to clarify, if you've played during the Beta or Alpha, we are yet to balance the game for less than four players. We will however have this functionality on our launch list! But we wanted to prioritize online four-player co-op to test the servers in the latest test.

Thank you. I really don't want to find another friend and additionally, my third friend is often aloof. I'm looking forward to the release.

You'll be able to play with 1, 2, 3, or 4 players! :)

Just to iterate as well though that some elements of the game will scale depending on your starting party size, but some parts aren't and may give you an incredibly tough time especially if you are adventuring solo or with less players.

So then it is sort of 4 player only? If we can't beat the game on the hardest difficulty in a solo or 2/3 party team then it should be stated somewhere so we don't waste our time.

Hey there! Players can control multiple characters, so party size can be anywhere from 1 to 4 characters even with just one player, that being said, players who want to play less than a full four-party system should be experienced and looking for a challenge. It's not something we recommend new players should attempt.
